Barisal District, officially known as Barishal District, is a district in south-central Bangladesh, formerly called Bakerganj district, established in 1797. Its headquarters are in the city of Barisal, which is also the headquarters of Barisal Division.
Barisal Division, officially known as Barishal Division, is one of the eight administrative divisions of Bangladesh. Located in the south-central part of the country, it has an area of 13,644.85 km2 (5,268.31 sq mi), and a population of 8,325,666 at the 2011 Census. It is bounded by Dhaka Division on the north, the Bay of Bengal on the south, Chittagong Division on the east and Khulna Division on the west. The administrative capital, Barisal city, lies in the Ganges (Padma) River delta on an offshoot of the Arial Khan River. Barisal division is criss-crossed by numerous rivers that earned it the nickname 'Dhan-Nodi-Khal, Ei tine Borishal'.

Jhalokathi is a district in southern Bangladesh. It is located in the Barisal Division and covers an area of 758.06 km2 It is bounded by Barisal district to the north and east, Barguna district and the Bishkhali river in the south, Lohagara Upazila and Pirojpur district to the west. Annual average temperatures: maximum 33.3 °C, minimum 12.1 °C; annual rainfall 2506 mm. Main rivers in this district are Bishkhali, Sugandha, Dhanshiri, Gabkhan, Jangalia and Bamanda, Bajitpur River.
East Bengali Refugees are people who left East Bengal following the Partition of Bengal, which was part of the Independence of India and Pakistan in 1947. An overwhelming majority of these refugees and immigrants were Bengali Hindus. They adopted Indian citizenship and contributed to various fields and professions. During the Bangladesh liberation war with West Pakistan, an estimated 10 million people of East Pakistan fled the country and took refuge in India particularly in the Indian states of West Bengal and Indian North East region.

The Barisal Division cricket team or Barisal Blazers is a Bangladeshi first-class team representing the Barisal Division, one of the seven administrative regions in Bangladesh. The team competes in the National Cricket League and was formerly a participant in the now-defunct National Cricket League One-Day. In the short-lived National Cricket League Twenty20 competition, played in the 2009–10 season only, Barisal played in their official green and black colours. The equivalent team in the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) is the Barisal Bulls.

It is a public educational institution located at Sadar Road. The school has a long history. It was founded by an Englishman, N. W. Garret, on 23 December 1829 with only 8 students. Now it has more than two thousand students. The school offers grades from class III to class X. It has two shifts, morning and day. The morning shift starts at 7:00 am and the day shift starts at 12:00 pm.
University of Barisal, is a public university located in Barisal, a city in southern Bangladesh. It is the only general public university in Barisal division and the country's 33rd public university. It was established in 2011 and started educational activities on 24 January 2012. The university offers degrees in undergraduate levels.
