Charles Bartlett Hyde, CBE ,is a Belizean politician. [1] He served as Speaker of the House of Representatives from 30 November 1979 to 9 November 1984. [2] During the birthday of Queen Elizabeth II on her silver coronation anniversary [3] in 1977,Hyde was made a Member of the Order of the British Empire. In 1998 he was made a Commander of the Order of the British Empire. [2]
Hyde was born in 1923 to Eunice,née Locke,and James Bartlett Hyde in Belize City (then the capital of British Honduras). He attended St. John's College then entered the administrative service of British Honduras. In October 1946,he married Elinor Belisle. The couple raised seven sons and two daughters,of whom Dartmouth's Evan X Hyde is the eldest. [2]
In the administrative service of British Honduras,Hyde met various authorities and in 1944 went to the post office of Belize. In 1959 he returned for twelve months to the General Post Office in Great Britain. At the Belize Post Office he was Assistant Postmaster from 1960 to 1962. He retired as Postmaster General in 1978. [2]
The Charles Bartlett Hyde Building,an administrative building on Mahogany Street in Belize City,was named after Hyde in 2008. The building was renovated in 1995 and was formerly known as Complex Building. [1]

Hurricane Hattie was the strongest and deadliest tropical cyclone of the 1961 Atlantic hurricane season,reaching peak intensity as a Category 5 hurricane. The ninth tropical storm,seventh hurricane,fifth major hurricane,and second Category 5 of the season,Hattie originated from an area of low pressure that strengthened into a tropical storm over the southwestern Caribbean Sea on October 27. Moving generally northward,the storm quickly became a hurricane and later major hurricane the following day. Hattie then turned westward west of Jamaica and strengthened into a Category 5 hurricane,with maximum sustained winds of 165 mph (270 km/h). It weakened to Category 4 before making landfall south of Belize City on October 31. The storm turned southwestward and weakened rapidly over the mountainous terrain of Central America,dissipating on November 1.
The House of Representatives of Belize is the lower chamber of the National Assembly,the other being the Senate. It was created under the 1981 constitution. Members are commonly called "Area Representatives".

Philip Stanley Wilberforce Goldson was a Belizean newspaper editor,activist and politician. He served in the House of Representatives of Belize as member for the Albert constituency from 1965 to 1998 and twice as a minister. Goldson was a founding member of both of Belize's current major political parties,the People's United Party (PUP) in the 1950s and the United Democratic Party (UDP) in the 1970s. Floss Casasola,MBE,OD was a British Honduran teacher and music instructor who became involved in the Belizean Independence Movement. She was one of the first women to vie for public office,serving on the Belize City Council from 1952 to 1956. Recognized numerous times for her contributions to increasing literacy and music development in the country,she was honored as a Member of the Order of the British Empire,with the Outstanding Artist Award in 1997 and in 2010 was posthumously awarded the Order of Distinction from the government of Belize.
Cordel Hyde is a Belizean politician. He is the current Deputy Prime Minister of Belize since 16 November 2020. He is a member of the People's United Party and has represented the Lake Independence constituency in the Belize House of Representatives since 2015. He currently serves as the Deputy Leader of the People's United Party.
Woldrich Harrison Courtenay was a Belizean politician,serving as Speaker of the House of Representatives from 12 March 1965 to 3 October 1974. He was born in 1904 and first worked as a civil servant in British Honduras (1920–1937),before studying law at London University. He graduated as a Doctor of Laws from Lincoln's Inn in 1936,and also worked as a radio announcer in the Anglican Church of British Honduras. He was married to Josephine,née Robinson.
