Charles Bombardier (born 1974) is a Canadian engineer and angel investor. [1] [2] [3] His concept ideas have been noted in some news publications. [4] [5] [6]
Charles Bombardier was born in Valcourt, Canada. [7] Bombardier's grandfather was Joseph-Armand Bombardier, founder of Bombardier Inc. and inventor of the snowmobile. [3] [7] [8] [9] At age 16, Bombardier began working for his family's company on the Ski-Doo assembly line in Valcourt.
Bombardier first completed a technical degree at the CEGEP of Lévis-Lauzon in 1994. He then attended the École de technologie supérieure in Montreal, Quebec, [7] [10] where he received a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering in 1998. In 2011, he completed a certificate in board governance from Laval University. [11] Bombardier went on to complete a master's degree in applied science, writing his thesis on the subject of crowdfunding and innovation management. [12] In 2017, he began his research and doctoral studies in engineering at the Université de Sherbrooke and completed it by the year 2024. [13] [14]
Bombardier began his career with Bombardier Recreational Products, where he managed various engineering teams, including the Bombardier Traxter XL ATV, the Elite Snowmobile by Ski-Doo [7] and the Spyder roadster motorcycle by Can-Am. [7] [15] In 2008, Bombardier left the family business to create electric vehicle prototypes.
In 2013, Bombardier focused his research on the product ideation process. He began converting his ideas into design concepts related to the future of mobility. The Globe and Mail hired him soon after to start writing a weekly column. [16] [17] [18]
He continues to invest with his family in Canadian startups and incubators. [19] In 2016, he was named to the board of the Order of Engineers of Québec. [20] [21] Since May 2019, Charles Bombardier has served on the Board of Bombardier. [22] Charles joined the Board of BRP in May 2020. [23]
Bombardier began publishing his concepts in 2013. [24] As of February 2019, he had published and shared over 325 concepts, ranging from recreational products to cars, boats, and aircraft. [15] [25] Each of his concepts includes a brief project description. [26] Bombardier collaborates with industrial designers from around the world to convert his vision into 3D models and graphic images. [7]
The Skreemr and Antipode concepts depict two types of hypersonic passenger airliner concepts able to fly from New York to London in less than 11 minutes. [6] Reusable rocket boosters would initially accelerate and propel the aircraft to Mach 5, after which, scramjets engines would take over and continue accelerating them up to Mach 24. An opening in the Antipode's nose would expel counter-flowing jets of air to cool the aircraft surface and reduce its sonic booms. This technology, dubbed long penetration mode (LPM), [27] was inspired by a NASA study. [28] Both concepts were featured in publications including Popular Mechanics, [29] Architectural Digest, [30] CNN [31] and Forbes. [32]
The Seataci is a yacht concept that uses a biomimetic propulsion system resembling the movement of whale's tail. Its main hull would be lowered underwater, providing passengers with an excellent underwater view of the coral reefs and marine life. It features a dozen villas and two landing pads specially designed for personal flying drones. It received a lot of press around the world and appeared in Forbes , [33] Business Insider [34] and hundreds of other websites around the world.
The Solar Express is a space train that would be designed and used to ferry humans, supplies and minerals between celestial bodies and space stations in the Solar System. It would run non-stop, so smaller vessels would need to catch the train when it passed by. It provides an artist's rendering of a Mars cycler spacecraft. The Solar Express concept generated of articles around the globe in several languages including Chinese, [35] Arabic, [36] German, [37] Italian, [38] and Russian. [39] [40]
Bombardier Inc. is a Canadian business jet manufacturer. Headquartered in Montreal, the company was founded in 1942 by Joseph-Armand Bombardier to market his snowmobiles and became one of the world's biggest producers of aircraft and trains.

The Airbus A220 is a family of five-abreast narrow-body airliners by Airbus Canada Limited Partnership (ACLP). It was originally developed by Bombardier and had two years in service as the Bombardier CSeries. The program was launched on 13 July 2008. The smaller A220-100 made its maiden flight on 16 September 2013, received an initial type certificate from Transport Canada on 18 December 2015, and entered service on 15 July 2016 with launch operator Swiss Global Air Lines. The longer A220-300 first flew on 27 February 2015, received an initial type certificate on 11 July 2016, and entered service with airBaltic on 14 December 2016.
Autoroute 55 is an important north–south Autoroute and the only one running in that direction in central Quebec. It is the longest north-south Autoroute, beginning as the continuation of I-91 at the Canada–United States border near Stanstead and continuing to Shawinigan, where it downgrades to Route 155. It was one of the world's largest companies in the rail vehicle and equipment manufacturing and servicing industry. Bombardier Transportation had many regional offices, production and development facilities worldwide. It produced a wide range of products including passenger rail vehicles, locomotives, bogies, propulsion and controls. A blended wing body (BWB), also known as blended body, hybrid wing body (HWB) or a lifting aerofoil fuselage, is a fixed-wing aircraft having no clear dividing line between the wings and the main body of the craft. The aircraft has distinct wing and body structures, which are smoothly blended together with no clear dividing line. This contrasts with a flying wing, which has no distinct fuselage, and a lifting body, which has no distinct wings. A BWB design may or may not be tailless.
A regional jet (RJ) is a jet-powered regional airliner with fewer than 100 seats. The first one was the Sud-Aviation Caravelle in 1959, followed by the widespread Yakovlev Yak-40, Fokker F-28, and BAe 146. The 1990s saw the emergence of the most widespread Canadair Regional Jet and its Embraer Regional Jet counterpart, then the larger Embraer E-Jet and multiple competing projects. In the US, they are limited in size by scope clauses.
The Mitsubishi SpaceJet was a regional jet project by Japanese company Mitsubishi Aircraft Corporation (MAC), a Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) subsidiary. MHI first announced the concept in June 2007, then targeting certification for 2012, as the first Japanese airliner since the 1962 NAMC YS-11. After a delayed development, the maiden flight of the MRJ90 took place on 11 November 2015. In June 2019, Mitsubishi rebranded the Mitsubishi Regional Jet program as the SpaceJet. As flight testing took longer than expected, the scheduled entry into service was further pushed back until development was first paused in October 2020, and subsequently cancelled altogether in February 2023.
