Charles Francis (born August 17, 1988) [1] is a Canadian competitor swimmer and backstroker. He was born in the small town of Cowansville, Quebec.
Francis competed at the 2007 Pan American Games, but failed to qualify for the 2008 Summer Olympics. Francis also competed at the 2011 World Aquatics Championships in Shanghai, his best result being a 16th-place finish in the 50-metre backstroke event. In 2012 at the Canadian Olympic trials, Francis qualified to compete in the 100-metre backstroke event at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. [2] In London, he advanced to the semifinals, finishing 15th overall. He was also part of the Canadian 4 x 100 m medley relay team. [3]
Laure Manaudou is a retired French Olympic, world and European champion swimmer. She has held the world record in freestyle events between 200 and 1500 meter. She is the daughter of a French father and a Dutch mother, and she is the older sister of Florent Manaudou who is also an Olympic gold medalist swimmer.
Aaron Wells Peirsol is an American former competition swimmer and backstroke specialist who is a former world champion and world record-holder. He is a three-time Olympian and seven-time Olympic medalist. Individually, he currently holds the world record in the 200-meter backstroke event. In February 2011, Peirsol announced his retirement, saying, "I ended up doing everything I set out to do."
Markus Antonius Rogan is a retired Austrian swimmer, who won two silver medals at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece and a gold medal for 200 m backstroke at the 2008 World Short Course Championships in Manchester. He also was the world record holder in 200 metres backstroke in that year.

Hayden Ernest Stoeckel is an Olympic and national record-holding backstroke swimmer from Australia. He swam for Australia at the 2008 Olympics where he tied with Russia's Arkady Vyatchanin for the bronze medal in the 100m backstroke; in semifinals of the event he also set a new Australian and Commonwealth Record (52.97). He was also part of the Australian men's 4×100-metre medley relay team that won bronze at the 2012 Summer Olympics.
Nicholas Brewer Thoman is an American competition swimmer who specializes in the backstroke and is an Olympic gold medalist. He has won two world championships as a member of winning United States medley relay teams at the FINA World Aquatics Championships. From 2009 to 2015 he held the world record in the 100-meter backstroke. Thoman has won a total of ten medals in major international competition, four gold, three silver, and three bronze spanning the Olympics, World Championships, Pan Pacific Championships, Pan American Games, and the Summer Universiade. He was a member of the 2012 U.S. Olympic team, and won gold and silver medals at the 2012 Summer Olympics.
Melissa Franklin Johnson is an American former competitive swimmer and five-time Olympic medalist. She held the world record in the 200-meter backstroke. As a member of the U.S. national swim team, she also held the world records in the 4×100-meter medley relay.

She has won gold in the Commonwealth Games and European Championships. She currently represents Energy Standard in the International Swimming League.
Bai Anqi is a Chinese backstroke swimmer. She competed at the 2012 Summer Olympics, where she did not qualify for the semifinals, after finishing in seventeenth position in the qualifiers, with a time of 2:11:26, the sixth-fastest in her heat of the 200 m backstroke.
Mitchell James Larkin is an Australian competitive swimmer who specialises in backstroke events. He currently represents the Cali Condors which is part of the International Swimming League. Larkin competed for Australia at the 2012 Summer Olympics, 2016 Summer Olympics and the 2020 Summer Olympics.
Florent Manaudou is a French competitive swimmer, an Olympic champion of the 50-meter freestyle at the 2012 London Olympics, and the younger brother of Laure Manaudou, a 2004 Olympic gold medalist in swimming. He competes for the Energy Standard Swim Club in the International Swimming League.

Hilary Caldwell is a Canadian competition swimmer who trains in Victoria, British Columbia. She won a bronze medal in the 200 m backstroke at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Caldwell won a bronze medal in the same event at the 2013 World Aquatics Championships, as well as a bronze at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in the 200 m backstroke. She won a gold in the 200 m backstroke at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto.
Kylie Jacqueline Masse is a Canadian competitive swimmer. She is a four-time Olympic medallist, having tied for the bronze medal at the 2016 Summer Olympics in the 100 m backstroke and then won silver medals at the 2020 Summer Olympics in both the 100 m and 200 m backstroke and a bronze medal in the 4x100 m medley. Masse is a two-time world champion in the 100 m backstroke, breaking the eight year old world record in the process, which she held until July 2018. While winning her title in Budapest at the 2017 World Aquatics Championships she became the first Canadian woman to become a world champion in a swimming event. She subsequently became the first Canadian woman to defend her world title at the 2019 World Aquatics Championships. She is currently the captain for the Toronto Titans of the International Swimming League.
