Ronald Dale Earle was an American politician and judge who was,from January 1977 to January 2009,the District Attorney for Travis County,Texas. He became nationally known for filing charges against House majority leader Tom DeLay in September 2005 for conspiring to violate Texas' election law and/or to launder money. In Texas,Earle was known for his criminal justice reform efforts which focused on crime prevention,alternative sentencing,victim advocacy,and the reintegration of former offenders into society. In 1983,Earle –an Eagle Scout –prosecuted himself for an election law violation after missing a campaign finance filing deadline by one day;he was fined $212. Earle was a fixture in Travis County politics and served in public office there for more than 30 years,joking that he was asked if he was the "District Eternity".
The structure of the judiciary of Texas is laid out in Article 5 of the Constitution of Texas and is further defined by statute,in particular the Texas Government Code and Texas Probate Code. The structure is complex,featuring many layers of courts,numerous instances of overlapping jurisdiction,several differences between counties,as well as an unusual bifurcated appellate system at the top level found in only one other state:Oklahoma. David Henry Dewhurst is an American politician,businessman,and attorney who served as the 41st Lieutenant Governor of Texas,serving from 2003 to 2015. A member of the Republican Party,he was the Texas Land Commissioner from 1999 to 2003. He was a candidate in 2012 for the U.S. Senate seat vacated by the retiring Republican Kay Bailey Hutchison,but he lost his party's runoff election to former Solicitor General Ted Cruz,who went on to win the general election.

The Texas Court of Criminal Appeals (CCA) is the court of last resort for all criminal matters in Texas. The Court,which is based in the Supreme Court Building in Downtown Austin,is composed of a presiding judge and eight judges.
The Texas Courts of Appeals are part of the Texas judicial system. The Texas attorney general is the chief legal officer of the U.S. state of Texas. The current officeholder,Republican Angela Colmenero,has been appointed to the position on July 10,2023 by Governor Greg Abbott. She serves instead of Ken Paxton,who has been impeached and suspended without salary while awaiting trial in the Texas Senate.
The 2012 United States Senate election in Texas was held on November 6,2012,along with other elections to the United States Senate the United States House of Representatives in additional states. Incumbent Republican U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison decided to retire instead of running for reelection to a fourth full term. This was the first open election for this seat since 1957.
Cathleen Cochran Herasimchuk,was a judge of the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals. A resident of Austin,Texas,she was initially appointed to the court on September 28,2001 by Governor Rick Perry and elected by Texas voters in 2002 and 2008. She did not seek re-election to the bench in 2014 and was succeeded in her Place 9 seat by her fellow Republican,David Newell of Houston. She died on February 7,2021.
Elsa R. Alcala,also known as Elsa Spjut,is a former Republican official who most recently served (2011–2018) as one of the nine judges of the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals. She was appointed to the Place 8 on the bench by then Governor Rick Perry,when Charles Holcomb stepped down to run in 2012 for the United States Senate. On July 16,2019 she announced she was leaving the Republican Party to support Democrats at the state and national level.
Robin French Wynne was an American judge. He served as a justice on the Arkansas Supreme Court from 2014 until his death. He had previously been a judge on the Arkansas Court of Appeals,District 5 from 2011 until being sworn into the Arkansas Supreme Court in 2015. Prior to serving on the Court of Appeals,he was the Dallas County District Judge between 2004 and 2010.

All of Texas's executive officers were up for election as well as a United States Senate seat,and all of Texas's thirty-six seats in the United States House of Representatives. The Republican and Democratic Parties nominated their candidates by primaries held March 6,2018. Convention Parties nominated their candidates at a series of conventions. County Conventions held March 17,2018,District Conventions held March 24,2018,and a State Convention held April 14,2018. At the present time there is only one Convention Party in Texas,that is the Libertarian Party. Other parties may seek to achieve ballot access.

The 2022 Texas elections were held on November 8,2022. Primary elections were held on March 1,with runoffs held on May 24 for primary candidates who did not receive a majority of the vote.
Kevin Patrick Yeary is an American attorney and jurist who serves on the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals. A Republican,he was elected in 2014.
The 2024 Texas elections will be held on November 5,2024. Primary elections took place on March 5,2024. If needed runoff elections will take place on May 28,2024.
