Williams was the first head football and men's basketball coach for the Temple University Owls located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and he held that position for five seasons, from 1894 until 1898. His overall coaching record for Temple football was 13 wins, 15 losses, and 1 tie. This ranks him ninth at Temple in terms of total wins and tenth at Temple in terms of winning percentage. Michael William Krzyzewski is an American former college basketball coach. He served as the head coach at Duke University from 1980 to 2022, during which he led the Blue Devils to five national titles, 13 Final Fours, 15 ACC tournament championships, and 13 ACC regular season titles. Among men's college basketball coaches, only UCLA's John Wooden has won more NCAA championships, with a total of ten. Krzyzewski is widely regarded as one of the greatest college basketball coaches of all time.
Roy Allen Williams is an American retired college basketball coach who served as the men's head coach for the North Carolina Tar Heels for 18 seasons and the Kansas Jayhawks for 15 seasons. He was inducted into the College Basketball Hall of Fame in 2006 and the Basketball Hall of Fame in 2007.

Charles Martin Newton was an American collegiate basketball player, coach, and athletics administrator. He served as the head men's basketball coach at Transylvania University from 1956 to 1968, the University of Alabama from 1968 to 1980, and Vanderbilt University from 1981 to 1989, compiling a career college basketball coaching record of 509–375. He was chairman of the NCAA Rules committee from 1979 to 1985 and was the president of USA Basketball from 1992 to 1996.
The North Carolina Tar Heels Men's basketball program is the college basketball team of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. He was previously the head coach at the UC Davis, winning the NCAA Men's Division II Basketball Championship in 1998. Williams is the all-time winningest coach at UC Santa Barbara with a 19-year record of 313–260.

The 1957–58 NCAA University Division men's basketball season began in December 1957, progressed through the regular season and conference tournaments, and concluded with the 1958 NCAA University Division Basketball Tournament Championship Game on March 22, 1958, at Freedom Hall in Louisville, Kentucky. Samuel Clyde Williams was an All-American football player at the University of Iowa, and a football, basketball, and baseball coach and athletic director at Iowa State University. He is a member of both schools' Halls of Fame.
Elton James Rynearson Sr. was an American athlete, coach, and college athletics administrator. He was affiliated with Eastern Michigan University for most of his life, beginning his association with the school as a student in 1910 and retiring as the school's athletic director in 1963.
Claude M. "Little Monk" Simons Jr. was an American football player, coach of football, basketball, and baseball, and college athletics administrator. He played college football at Tulane University, where he starred for the Tulane Green Wave as a halfback. Simons served as the head football coach at Transylvania University from 1935 to 1937 and his alma mater, Tulane, from 1942 to 1945, compiling career college football coaching record of 24–29–2. He was the basketball coach at Tulane from 1938 to 1942, tallying a mark of 19–44. He also had two stints the school's baseball coach, from 1938 to 1941 and 1943 to 1949, amassing a record of 91–69. Monk was the athletic director at Tulane from 1946 to 1947. He was inducted into the College Football Hall of Fame as player in 1963.
