Charlotte Hym (born 30 October 1992) is a French street skateboarder and neuroscientist based in Paris.

Early life and education

Hym was born in Paris and grew up close to Boulevard Richard-Lenoir. She asked for a skateboard at the age of twelve because she saw so many people skateboarding in her local area. [2]

Hym obtained a bachelor's degree in Sport sciences at the Paris Descartes University in 2013, and completed a master's degree in Neuroscience from the same university in 2015. [2] She remained in neuroscience as a doctoral researcher, focusing on cognitive neuroscience at psychology in the laboratory of Marianne Barbu-Roth. [3] [4] She looked at the impact of maternal voices on newborn babies. [5] In 2019, she received a PhD degree in Cognitive neuroscience and Psychology from the Paris Descartes University. [2]

Skateboarding career

Hym has competed at the World Skateboarding Championships. In 2016 she was approached by Commission Skateboard France to join the France skateboarding teams. She trained in Cosanostra Skatepark. [6] In July 2021 she represented France in the Women's Street Skateboarding event at the 2020 Summer Olympics, finishing in 17th place. [7]

Annie Guglia is a Canadian skateboarder and LGBTQ rights activist. She identified herself as a lesbian. She is also regarded as a prominent LGBTQ activist. She made her debut appearance in the Olympics at the age of 30 representing Canada at the 2020 Summer Olympics where skateboarding was also added in Olympics for the very first time. During the 2020 Summer Olympics, she competed in women's street event. She made it to the 2020 Summer Olympics in an unconventional manner despite failing to qualify for the Olympics. She was initially not picked in the Canadian contingent for the 2020 Summer Olympics but was later added as a substitute for an injured athlete in skateboarding event.

Julia Brueckler or Julia Brückler is an Austrian professional street skateboarder. She is regarded as one of the first female skateboarders in Austria. Her partner Cody McEntire is also a professional skateboarder.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Skateboarding at the 2024 Summer Olympics</span>

Skateboarding competitions at the 2024 Summer Olympics are scheduled to run from 27 July to 7 August at Place de la Concorde, returning to the program for the second time since the sport's official debut three years earlier in Tokyo 2020. With the showcase of youthful talents and the level of competition continually rising, Paris 2024 will witness more skateboarders compete across four medal events as the roster size gradually expands from 80 in Tokyo to 88.
