Jason Ankeny of allmusic admired the band for successfully fusing a number of genres, such as psychedelic and noise rock. He awarded Chartreuse Toulouse four and a half out of five stars, while mentioning Flatula's lyrics as being a detractor. Ira Robbins of the Trouser Press noted that while it does lose momentum, the album is a "psychedelic trip" and "one of Tragic Mulatto's great adventures." [2]

Alice Donut is a punk rock band from New York City formed in 1986. The band released six albums before splitting up in 1996. They reformed in 2001.
Tragic Mulatto was an American rock band based in San Francisco, California, United States. Performing under pseudonyms, the band's nucleus consisted of vocalist Flatula Lee Roth and bass guitarist Reverend Elvister Shanksley aka Lance Boyle. The band released their albums on Jello Biafra's label Alternative Tentacles, with Dead Kennedys' bassist Klaus Flouride acting as producing several of their early albums.
