Cheadle Heath Nomads Football Club is a football club based in Cheadle Heath, Stockport, Greater Manchester, England. They are currently members of the North West Counties League Division One South and play at the Heath.
The original Cheadle Heath Nomads club was established in 1919 as a multi-sport club. [1] They originally played in green and yellow quarters, before changing to white during the 1930s, and then claret and blue after World War II. [2] With the exception of a break in 1927, [2] the club played in the Lancashire and Cheshire Amateur League until 1994, [3] when they moved up to Division Two of the Mid-Cheshire League. In their first season in Division Two they were champions, earning promotion to Division One, where they remained until 2004. [4]
Linotype Football Club was also established in 1919 as the works team of the Linotype and Machinery Company. [5] Playing at Lawrence Road, a ground in the middle of a housing estate for Linotype workers in Broadheath, the club entered the North Cheshire League. [5] They transferred to the Mid-Cheshire League in 1949, and were champions in 1956–60 and runners-up three seasons later. [6] The club won the league again in 1968–69, were runners-up in 1972–73, 1980–81 and 1989–90, before winning the league again in 1990–91 and 1993–94. They were runners-up again in 1996–97 and 1998–99. [6] In 55 seasons between entering the league and 2004 the club only finished in the bottom half of the table seven times. [6]
With the company having started to close down operations at the start of the 1970s, financial support for the club ceased and in 1985 the Lawrence Road ground was designated for new housing. [5] The club then moved to the British Airways ground in Timperley, [5] but by the early 2000s they were having issues with their use of the ground. [2]
In 2004 Cheadle Heath Nomads and Linotype merged to form Linotype & Cheadle Heath Nomads. [7] The Mid-Cheshire League was renamed the Cheshire League in 2007, with Division One becoming the Premier Division in 2014. In 2014–15 the club won the league title, going on to finish as runners-up the following season.
After finishing fourth in the league in 2018, the club were promoted to Division One South of the North West Counties League, [4] also changing their name to Cheadle Heath Nomads. [7]
At the foundation of Cheadle Heath Nomads, the founders raised £1,000 to purchase land in Cheadle Heath to establish a sports club, with the club opening in 1921. [1] After World War II a Nissen hut was built. [2] The ground was shared with the cricket team, which prevented the club moving up to the Mid-Cheshire League until the cricket team folded. [2] During the 2010s, ground improvements were made in order to move up the football pyramid, with a 50-seat stand and floodlights installed. [3] [2]
The North West Counties Football League is a football league in the North West of England. Since 2019–20, the league has covered the Isle of Man, Cheshire, Greater Manchester, Lancashire, Merseyside, Cumbria, northern Staffordshire, northern Shropshire, the far west of West Yorkshire, and the High Peak area of Derbyshire. In the past, the league has also hosted clubs from North Wales such as Caernarfon Town, Colwyn Bay, and Rhyl. From season 2018–19 the league increased to three divisions: the Premier Division, at level nine in the English football league system, and two geographically separate Division Ones, North and South, at level ten. The league is a member of the Joint Liaison Council which administers the Northern arm of the National Football System in England.
Alsager Town Football Club is a football club, based in Alsager, Cheshire, England. The club are currently members of North West Counties League Division One South and play at Wood Park Stadium. Affiliated to the Cheshire County Football Association, they also operate a reserve team in the Staffordshire County Senior League and a youth team in the North West Youth Alliance.
Glossop North End Association Football Club is a football club in Glossop, Derbyshire, England, which compete in the North West Counties League Premier Division. Their home ground is Surrey Street, which has a capacity of 1,301. The club play in blue, and are nicknamed the Hillmen or the Peakites. Between 1899 and 1992 the club was officially known simply as Glossop. Glossop is one of the smallest towns in England to have had a Football League club, and it remains the smallest town whose team has played in the English top-flight.
Flixton F.C. was an English football club based in Flixton, near Urmston in Greater Manchester. They played in the North West Counties Football League Premier Division until 2012 when they resigned from the league. In the late 1990s they spent some time in the Northern Premier League. Previously they had also played in the Manchester League, the Lancashire & Cheshire Amateur League and the South Manchester and Wythenshawe League. They were members of the Manchester Football Association. They most recently played their home games at Valley Road in Flixton.
Kidsgrove Athletic F.C. is an English football club based in Kidsgrove, Staffordshire, England currently playing in the Northern Premier League Division One West. The team, nicknamed "The Grove", play their home games at Hollinwood Road, Clough Hall.

They were the Midland League champions three times, North West Counties Football League champions in 2013–14, and were promoted to be members of the Northern Premier League Division One South. On 9 April 2015 it was announced that Norton United would resign from the Northern Premier League at the end of the season and fold.

The 2018–19 North West Counties Football League season was the 37th in the history of the North West Counties Football League, a football competition in England, and the first season following the split of the lower level into two geographically separated divisions. Teams were divided into three divisions: Premier Division, at Step 5, and Divisions One North and South, at Step 6.

The Lancashire and Cheshire Amateur Football League is an English association football league founded in 1909. As of the 2023/24 season, the league consists of seven divisions – Premier, One, Two and Three, then A, B and C. Historically the divisions named A-D were for Reserve sides of teams in the top four divisions, but 1st teams can now play at the lower levels. In 2023-24, three divisions now have this style of name. The Premier Division is at level 14 in the English football league system, below the 3rd levels of the top county leagues in the area: Manchester League, Cheshire League and West Lancashire League.
