The Cheltenham Deanery is a Roman Catholic deanery in the Diocese of Clifton that covers several churches in Cheltenham and the surrounding area. It is one of thirteen deaneries in the diocese. The other deaneries are Bath, Bristol East, Bristol North West, Bristol South, Glastonbury, Gloucester, Salisbury, Stroud, Swindon, Taunton, Trowbridge and Weston-super-Mare. [1]

The region now known as Gloucestershire was originally inhabited by Brythonic peoples in the Iron Age and Roman periods. After the Romans left Britain in the early 5th century, the Brythons re-established control but the territorial divisions for the post-Roman period are uncertain. The city of Caerloyw was one centre and Cirencester may have continued as a tribal centre as well. St Gregory the Great Church is a Roman Catholic Parish church in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, England. It was founded in 1809 and rebuilt from 1854 to 1857. It is situated on the corner of St James' Square and Clarence Street. It was designed by Charles Hansom and is a Grade II* listed building.
