Kericho is the biggest town in Kericho County, located in the highlands west of the Kenyan Rift Valley. Positioned on the edge of the Mau Forest, Kericho benefits from a warm and temperate climate, making it good for agriculture, especially large scale tea cultivation.

Alfred Kiprato arap Kerich was the first Member of Parliament for Belgut Constituency in Kericho County, Kenya. He served for two terms as a member of the National Assembly between 1963 and 1969 and 1974–1979. He hailed from Kaptebeswet Area in Kericho County.
Wesley Kimngeno arap Rono was the Second Member of Parliament for Belgut Constituency in Kericho County in 1969. Before he joined politics he served as the Principal for Cheptenye Boys in Kericho County. He held a BSc from the University of Nairobi.
