Cheyenne Transit Program is the primary provider of mass transportation in Laramie County, Wyoming. Four routes are provided by the agency from Monday through Saturday. [1] In 2009, the city began a comprehensive process to increase ridership by adding bus stops and building shelters.
The Cheyenne Transit Program mostly suspended services during the COVID-19 pandemic. [2] However, unlike other agencies, the suspension lasted significantly longer, until September 5, 2023 [3] [4] with four bus routes put into effect. When transit returned to the city, the system was improved with more direct routes and free fares. Despite moving to a fare-free operation, the city will save money by no longer requiring fareboxes, nor any of the other associated expenses of a fare-based system. [5] Passengers also no longer need to bring exact change with them to use the buses.

At this time, the Transfer Station was located on W 17th St and Capitol Avenue next to the Cheyenne Municipal Parking facility in Downtown Cheyenne. [8] Fares which most people had to pay in order to ride the bus were US$1.00 fee per ride; transfers to other buses were free. In the late 2010s, that fare was raised to US$1.50.
At a certain point between 2021 and mid-2023, an Express route from Downtown Cheyenne to Walmart on Dell Range Blvd was provided. [9] In 2023, two routes between Downtown Cheyenne and the north Walmart on Dell Range Blvd were put into effect along with four micro-transit zones for extended coverage. [10]
Plans are currently in place to eventually extend service farther into the evening hours as well as on Sundays although fixed-route service would stop at 6:00 PM on weekdays and not operate on Sundays. Instead, Micro-transit service is planned to eventually operate during the extended service times. There are plans to acquire vans for para-transit services. [7]
There are also plans to eventually relocate Cheyenne Transit Program's office from its current location on W Lincolnway to 1800 Westland Rd at what is a former Union Pacific Railroad facility. This would place the offices closer to the maintenance facility along Old Happy Jack Road, and it is set to serve as an inter-modal hub that could provide intercity bus service among other transit services. Each route begins at the top of the hour at the Transfer Station (W 18th St and O'Neil Ave), and makes a loop to return about 10 minutes prior to the next hour. The buses meet at one of Cheyenne's two Walmarts (Livingston Ave and Dell Range Blvd) about 22 to 28 minutes after the hour where users can also transfer between two respective buses (South and East routes, or Northeast and Northwest routes). With the current design of the bus routes, the buses double back along their routes back to the Transfer Station.
Each bus identifies its route with a basic marquee on the front and right side of each bus. Bus stops are identified with a green sign and can sometimes be accompanied by plastic benches and/or green, metal bus shelters.
The "curb-to curb" program is a dial-up transit taxi for the disabled, or those not close to a bus stop. [13] The para-transit runs on the same time-frame of a fixed-route, and within a 3/4th mile buffer.
As of 2023, Cheyenne Transit Program owns 23 vehicles to provide their services including vehicles made by Chevy, Ford, and Dodge. At this time, CTP's vehicles' years range from 2006 to 2020. The largest vehicle in the list carries 27 passengers. [8]
The Maryland Transit Administration (MTA) is a state-operated mass transit administration in Maryland, and is part of the Maryland Department of Transportation. The MTA operates a comprehensive transit system throughout the Washington-Baltimore metropolitan area. There are 80 bus lines serving the Baltimore Metropolitan Area, along with rail services that include the Light Rail, Metro Subway, and MARC Train. In 2023, the system had a ridership of 52,922,000, or about per weekday as of the fourth quarter of 2023.
Calgary Transit is the public transit agency which is owned and operated by the city of Calgary, Alberta, Canada. In 2019, an estimated 106.5 million passengers boarded approximately 1,155 Calgary Transit vehicles. It operates light metro (LRT), urban tramway, bus rapid transit (BRT), para-transit, and regular bus services. In 2023, the system had a ridership of 144,385,200, or about 463,000 per weekday as of the fourth quarter of 2023.
Hillsborough Area Regional Transit provides public transportation for Hillsborough County, Florida. The agency operates fixed-route local and express bus service, paratransit service, demand-response service, MetroRapid service, and the TECO Line Streetcar system. In 2023, the system had a ridership of 12,929,700.
RTC Transit is the name of the public bus system in the Las Vegas metropolitan area of Clark County, Nevada. It is a subsidiary of the Regional Transportation Commission of Southern Nevada. While it services most of Clark County with regularly scheduled routes, most of the service is in the immediate Las Vegas Valley; outlying places such as Mesquite and Laughlin provide transit services to their residents via the Southern Nevada Transit Coalition, which uses several vehicles acquired from RTC Transit. In 2023, the system had a ridership of 52,734,200, or about 161,000 per weekday as of the fourth quarter of 2023.
Hampton Roads Transit (HRT), incorporated on October 1, 1999, began through the voluntary merger of PENTRAN on the Virginia Peninsula and TRT in South Hampton Roads and currently serves over 22 million annual passengers within its 369-square-mile (960 km2) service area around Hampton Roads. The purpose of the HRT is to provide reliable and efficient transportation service and facilities to the Hampton Roads community. In 2023, the system had a ridership of 7,263,900, or about 23,400 per weekday as of the fourth quarter of 2023.
The Capital District Transportation Authority (CDTA) is a New York State public-benefit corporation overseeing a number of multi-modal parts of public transportation in the Capital District of New York State. CDTA runs local and express buses, including four lines of an express bus service called BusPlus, and day-to-day management of three Amtrak stations in the Capital region–the Albany-Rensselaer, Schenectady and Saratoga Springs Amtrak stations. In 2023, the system had a ridership of 15,779,000, or about 55,300 per weekday as of the fourth quarter of 2023.
Billings Metropolitan Transit (MET) is the public transit system in Billings, Montana. MET Transit provides fixed-route and paratransit bus service to the City of Billings Monday-Saturday. The MET is the primary mode of transportation for many citizens of the city. Met serves about 2,000 passengers a day. It currently employs around 60 people. All of MET's buses are accessible by citizens who use wheelchairs and other mobility devices; the buses are wheelchair lift-equipped and accessible to all citizens that are unable to use the stairs. All MET buses are equipped with bike racks for its bike riding passengers.
VIA Metropolitan Transit Authority is the mass transit agency serving San Antonio, Texas, United States, and its surrounding municipalities. It began operation in 1978 as a successor to the San Antonio Transit System. In 2023, the system had a ridership of 25,132,300, or about 85,600 per weekday as of the fourth quarter of 2023.
Stark Area Regional Transit Authority (SARTA) is a public sector transit agency servicing Stark County, a county in Ohio containing Canton, Alliance, and Massillon. In addition to its regular line service within Stark County, SARTA runs one bus route between Canton and downtown Akron, connecting to Akron's METRO RTA bus system and also serving the Akron-Canton Regional Airport from both cities and one route to Cleveland starting March 4, 2013. In 2023, the system had a ridership of 1,371,600, or about 5,400 per weekday as of the fourth quarter of 2023.
Allegany County Transit (ACT) is a publicly funded, general-public bus system serving Allegany County, Maryland, providing Public Transportation. Allegany County has two types of services, a Fixed Route and a Demand Response Service. Allegany County Transit is a division of Allegany County Government.
The Sangamon Mass Transit District (SMTD) is a regional mass transit district that mostly serves Springfield, Illinois along with a few neighboring communities. It is governed by a seven-member board of trustees, who are all appointed by the Sangamon County Board of Supervisors. In 2023, the system had a ridership of 1,406,900, or about 4,900 per weekday as of the fourth quarter of 2023.
The Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority (PSTA) is a government agency that provides public transportation for Pinellas County, Florida. The authority manages a fixed-route bus system that encompasses over 40 bus routes - including two express routes to Tampa; the Central Avenue Trolley; the Suncoast Beach Trolley; and the bus rapid transit service, the SunRunner.
The Jule, formerly known as KeyLine Transit, is the operator of mass transit within the City of Dubuque, Iowa. The Jule offers transit bus routes throughout the city, trolley-replica transportation in Downtown Dubuque and the Port of Dubuque, and on-demand paratransit "MiniBus" service citywide. As of the 2011 rebranding, the transit system and city are now both named after Julien Dubuque. In FY 2010, the Jule recorded 371,000 rides.
Metropolitan Evansville Transit System (METS) is a public transit system consisting primarily of bus service in the city of Evansville, Indiana.
Golden Empire Transit is the operator of mass transportation in Bakersfield, California. There are 16 routes serving Greater Bakersfield, which includes both the City of Bakersfield and adjacent unincorporated communities. Since 2005, almost the entire bus fleet has been powered by compressed natural gas. In 2021, 5 hydrogen buses were added to the fleet, with an additional 5 planned for purchase in the future. In 2023, the system had a ridership of 3,531,400, or about 11,400 per weekday as of the fourth quarter of 2023.
Mountain Line Transit Authority is the main provider of public transportation located in Morgantown, West Virginia and the surrounding area. It is also the provider of bus service on the campus of West Virginia University. Inter-city bus service to Fairmont, Clarksburg, Waynesburg, PA, Pittsburgh, PA, and the Pittsburgh International Airport is achieved with the Grey Line. Fare for all local routes is $0.75, while Grey Line can cost up to $20 for a single person to Pittsburgh International Airport from Clarksburg WV. In 2023, the system had a ridership of 638,900, or about per weekday as of the fourth quarter of 2023.
Mountain Metropolitan Transit is the public transportation operator for the metro area of Colorado Springs, Colorado, providing service to downtown Colorado Springs and surrounding areas within city limits and to the city of Manitou Springs, Widefield and Security. It has 27 local routes. In 2023, the system had a ridership of 2,991,300, or about 8,800 per weekday as of the fourth quarter of 2023.
Chatham Area Transit (CAT) is the provider of public transportation in the Savannah, Georgia, metropolitan area. The Authority was founded in 1987, evolving from previous transit providers. Services operate seven days a week.
Madera Metro, formerly Madera Area Express (MAX) is the primary bus agency providing intracity services within Madera, California. It is operated by the City of Madera and offers three fixed routes and dial-a-ride point-to-point services. Riders may transfer to Madera County Connection intercity bus routes within the county or Greyhound Lines long-haul intercity buses at the downtown Madera Intermodal Center. Madera Metro also connects to the train station north of the city limits, where riders may transfer to the Amtrak San Joaquins intercity service connecting the San Francisco Bay Area and Los Angeles.
