Chicago Recording Company, or CRC, is a recording studio in Chicago, Illinois, founded in 1975. [1] Boasting twelve studios, CRC is the largest recording company in the Midwest, and the largest independent studio in the country. [2]

History

Early history

Originally called Sound House Studios, CRC was founded by Alan Kubicka in Medinah, Illinois. In 1975 the studio moved to Michigan Avenue in Chicago, and became Chicago Recording Company. Early records made there include Lovin' Feeling by Phil Upchurch and Don't Fight The Feeling by Jim Peterik.

Music

CRC has been host to dozens of notable artists that have recorded at the company's music studios. Notably, The Smashing Pumpkins have used the studio numerous times since the mid-1990s. The video for their single "Untitled" features the band recording in Chicago Recording Company. Others to record at CRC include Michael Jackson, Carole King, Coldplay, Sting, Timbaland, Rihanna, Styx, Justin Timberlake, Queen Latifah, Death Cab for Cutie, Mavis Staples, Jeremih, Smokey Robinson, Celine Dion, The Cure, Jennifer Hudson, Lady Gaga, Changing Faces, Justin Bieber, Kanye West, Stone Temple Pilots, Resurrection Band, Liz Phair, Duran Duran, Ohio Players, Nine Inch Nails, Red Hot Chili Peppers, R. Kelly, Linkin Park, Alicia Keys, Garbage, Britney Spears, Aaliyah, Pharrell Williams, Snoop Dogg, Ice Cube and Wilco. The Chicago Cubs' anthem, "Go, Cubs, Go" was recorded at CRC in 1984.

Post

In post audio and sound design, advertising agencies such as FCB, Leo Burnett, Young & Rubicam, and DDB Worldwide frequently produce advertising in the company's nine post-production studios. Equally notable[ citation needed ] are the numerous film, television and gaming productions that the studio's engineers have contributed to, including Watchmen , Toy Story , The Dark Knight , Boardwalk Empire , CSI: NY , Black Swan and NHL 15 . The band announced a dissolution on February 9, 2002. Two compilation albums were later released in 2003. Produced by Colin Thurston, the band wrote and demoed most of the material before recording the album at AIR Studios in London from January to March 1982. The band utilised more experimentation compared to their debut album, from vibraphone and marimba to the sound of a cigarette being lit and cracking ice cubes. Andy Hamilton played a saxophone solo on "Rio".

Bleed Like Me is the fourth studio album by American rock band Garbage. It was released worldwide on April 11, 2005, through Warner Music imprint A&E Records, with a North American release on Geffen Records the following day. For this album, the band chose a straight rock sound reminiscent of their live performances instead of the electronica that permeated their previous album Beautiful Garbage (2001). The first recording sessions took place in March 2003, but were mostly unproductive due to passive aggression between band members and a general lack of direction. As they struggled to record the album, Garbage quietly split for four months starting in October 2003. They reunited under producer John King in Los Angeles and, following a guest appearance by Dave Grohl on "Bad Boyfriend", they found a renewed focus on production. Garbage recruited drummer Matt Walker and bassist Justin Meldal-Johnsen for new recording sessions and completed the album by late 2004.

Laid is the fifth studio album by British rock band James. It was released on 27 September 1993 through Fontana Records. The album's sound, which is "stripped-down" as compared to their prior releases, was inspired by their recent experience touring as supporting act to Neil Young. Enlisting Brian Eno as producer, James recorded for six weeks at The Windings in Wrexham, Wales, and Real World Studios in Box, Wiltshire. Commit This to Memory is the second studio album by American rock band Motion City Soundtrack. Produced by Mark Hoppus, the album was released on June 7, 2005, in the United States by Epitaph Records. The Minnesota-based rock act formed in 1997, developing their emotionally-charged, pop-punk sound over the interim years. Their debut LP, I Am the Movie, saw release on independent label Epitaph in 2003. Most of the music on the final incarnation of the album was completed in late 2006 following the departure of band member Andy Taylor with new guitarist Dominic Brown replacing him, when record producer Timbaland began working with the band. "Falling Down" was the only single released from the album.

Reportage is the working title of an unfinished album that English rock band Duran Duran wrote and recorded as the intended follow-up to their 2004 reunion album Astronaut. After the departure of original guitarist Andy Taylor in 2006, the band decided to start over with a new batch of songs that became 2007's Red Carpet Massacre.

"Go Cubs Go", "Go, Cubs, Go" or "Go, Cubs, Go!" is a song written by Steve Goodman in 1984. At various times the Goodman version of the song has been the official Chicago Cubs team song and the official Cubs victory song, playing after every home win for the Cubs at Wrigley Field. The Goodman version has been included in both a 1994 Steve Goodman anthology album and a 2008 Cubs songs and sounds album. Away from the World is the eighth studio album by the American rock band Dave Matthews Band. It was released on September 11, 2012 through RCA Records. The album was primarily recorded at Studio Litho in Seattle, Washington from January to May 2012 and is the band's first to be produced by Steve Lillywhite since Before These Crowded Streets (1998). It is the band's last album to feature full participation from violinist Boyd Tinsley before his departure in 2018.

Paper Gods is the fourteenth studio album by English rock band Duran Duran, released on 11 September 2015 by Warner Bros. Records. The album was produced by Mr Hudson and Joshua Blair, who had worked with the band on All You Need Is Now (2010) and A Diamond in the Mind: Live 2011 (2012); Nile Rodgers, who had previously first worked on the band's "The Reflex", his remixed version reaching number one, "The Wild Boys" single and Notorious album, and Mark Ronson, who produced All You Need Is Now. King, the Four Seasons, Lesley Gore, the Dixie Cups, the Everly Brothers, Buddy Holly, and Kiss.
