The Chicago Tornadoes were a cricket team that played for the United States Pro Cricket league. It was one of eight founding teams in the league in 2004. This was the only year that the team played as the league was disbanded following the season. The team failed to make the playoffs during 2004.
The team's first match was played on 10 July 2004 against eventual champions San Francisco Freedom. On 31 July, the Texas Arrow Heads visited the Tornadoes at their home ground of Alexian Field before meeting them on 17 July in Houston. [1] The Tornadoes batted first in this match and, despite an early hat-trick, by Corey Collymore, came up with only 157 runs. Texas dominated the match in batting, though. Marlon Samuels hit the Chicago bowlers in every direction and scored a century in only 40 balls. In spite of a strong bowling effort from Franklyn Rose, the Arrowheads reached the target in 15 only overs. [2] On 7 August, the Tornadoes again played San Francisco, this time at Alexian. The home team set a target of 157 before the Freedom caught them. [3] The game was won on a six by Ganesh Seetaram in the eighteenth over. [4]
The team played its final match against the Los Angeles Unity on 14 August. [1] The Tornadoes were supposed to have played the Unity again a week later. However, this game was canceled because neither team had a chance of advancing to the playoffs. The Tornadoes finished their season without a single win.
There were plans at the end of 2004 season for the continuation of the league. It had been stated that the league had funds available for three complete seasons.[ who? ] Attendance at Tornadoes games was relatively low, with only a couple hundred fans at each home match.[ citation needed ] In the end, the franchise ceased operations when the Pro Cricket league folded after one season.
Brian Charles Lara, is a Trinidadian former international cricketer, widely acknowledged as one of the greatest batsmen of all time. He topped the Test batting rankings on several occasions and holds several cricketing records, including the record for the highest individual score in first-class cricket, with 501 not out for Warwickshire against Durham at Edgbaston in 1994, which is the only quintuple-hundred in first-class cricket history. Lara also holds the record for the highest individual score in a Test innings after scoring 400 not out against England at Antigua in 2004. Lara also shares the test record of scoring the highest number of runs in a single over in a Test match, when he scored 28 runs off an over by Robin Peterson of South Africa in 2003.
Washington Freedom was an American professional soccer club based in the Washington, D.C., suburb of Germantown, Maryland, that participated in Women's Professional Soccer. The Freedom was founded in 2001 as a member of the defunct Women's United Soccer Association. Beginning in 2004, the Freedom played its home games at the Maryland SoccerPlex. In 2011, the team relocated to Boca Raton, Florida, and became magicJack.
Pro Cricket was a professional cricket league in the United States. It was operated by American Pro Cricket LLC (APC), a private company independent of the ICC and the USACA. The league was formed in 2004 as one of several independent efforts by different organizations to develop and promote cricket in the United States. APC originally announced that it was fully funded for at least three years of competition, but the league struggled through in its initial season due to poor attendance. Although most of the games were shown on Dish network PPV, the competition was linked to the unsuccessful launch of the so named "American Desi TV" channel based out of New Jersey. The league ceased operations after the 2004 season.
Adam Craig Gilchrist is an Australian cricket commentator and former international cricketer and captain of the Australia national cricket team. He was an attacking left-handed batsman and record-breaking wicket-keeper, who redefined the role for the Australia national team through his aggressive batting. Widely regarded as the greatest wicket-keeper–batsman in the history of the game, Gilchrist held the world record for the most dismissals by a wicket-keeper in One Day International (ODI) cricket until it was surpassed by Kumar Sangakkara in 2015 and the most by an Australian in Test cricket.
Simon Matthew Katich is an Australian cricket coach and former cricketer. He captained New South Wales and also, until the end of the 2007 season, Derbyshire County Cricket Club. Katich also played for Lancashire, represented his birth state of Western Australia and played in Indian Premier League for Kings XI Punjab.
The Schaumburg Flyers were a professional baseball team based in Schaumburg, Illinois, in the United States. The Flyers were to be charter members of the North American League, which is not affiliated with Major League Baseball, but the team folded in March 2011, before beginning play in the NAL. From 1999 to 2010, the Flyers played their home games at Alexian Field, near the Elgin O'Hare Expressway. They formerly played in Thunder Bay, Ontario, where they were known as the Thunder Bay Whiskey Jacks. The team belonged to the Northern League from 1993 to 2010.

Dwayne Romel Smith is a former Barbadian international cricketer who has represented the West Indies in all three formats of the game. A (part-time) all-rounder, he is known as an aggressive and powerful right-handed batsman, bowls medium pace, and is also an athletic fielder.
David John Hussey is a former Australian cricketer. Hussey is a right-handed batsman and can also bowl right-arm offbreaks. He is the younger brother of former Australian cricketer Michael Hussey. He was captain of the Melbourne Stars in the Big Bash League.
Indiana Blast was an American soccer team, founded in 1994. The team was a member of the United Soccer Leagues, played in the USISL and A-League (1995–2004) until folding at the end of the 2004 season.
The Chicago Bandits are a women's professional softball team based in Rosemont, Illinois. Since the 2005 season, they have played as a member of National Pro Fastpitch (NPF). The Bandits won the 2008 NPF championship, defeating the Washington Glory in the final game of the championship series. The team won their second NPF championship following the 2011 season when they won the championship series two games to none over the USSSA Pride. Chadwick Antonio Kirkpatrick Walton is a West Indies cricketer from Jamaica. Nicknamed Rope, Walton is a right-hand batsman and wicket keeper who played a series of first class cricket matches for Combined Campuses and Colleges and University of West Indies Vice-Chancellor's XI before being chosen for the West Indies Test side. He played his first match against Bangladesh on 9 July 2009. During his first Test series, he equalled Ridley Jacobs's record of five dismissals in an innings. Walton was picked by Karachi Kings for Season 5 of Pakistan Super League.
The Geneva Golden Tornadoes football program represents Geneva College in collegiate level football. The team competes in NCAA Division III and is affiliated with the Presidents' Athletic Conference (PAC). The team is also a member of the National Christian College Athletic Association. Since its initial season in 1890, the team has won over 500 games. Home games are currently played at Reeves Field, in Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania. Several Geneva College players have received national attention, including Cal Hubbard and Larry Bruno.
Dinesh Karthik is an Indian wicket-keeper and batsman who made his debut for the Indian cricket team in 2004. He became captain of the Kolkata Knight Riders Indian Premier League team during the 2018 season.
Josefa Falani Rika was a Fijian cricketer who made his debut for the Fijian national side in June 2006. Beginning in 2010, he captained the side in several international tournaments, and also worked for Cricket Fiji in coaching and development roles.
