Chidambaranatha Soorappa Chozhanar (died 2013) was the last anointed Zamindar of Pichavaram. [1]

Early life

He came from the family of Picharvaram Zamin living in Chidambaram. He earned an master's in political science.

Heritage

The Chola safeguarded the key of the Nataraja temple, about one hundred years ago. During that time, the Dikshitars collected the key of the temple from the Zamin family every morning and received it from them at night.[ citation needed ] Chozhanar was anointed in 1978 at Nataraja temple in Chidambaram[ citation needed ].

Personal life

He married Santhi Devi, of Udayarpalayam Zamin with whom he had two sons, Chakravarthi, Mannarmannan and one daughter Ishwarya. He died at age 63 on 10 December 2013. The last rites were held at Chellappanpettai near Panthanallur in Thanjavur district. [2] He was into agriculture.

Koothu or Therukoothu (jwalith), is an ancient art, where artists play songs with dance and music in storytelling the epics, performed in Tamil; it is a folk art originated from the early Tamil country. More precisely Koothu refers to either Terukuttu (Tamil:தெருக்கூத்து) or Kattaikkuttu. The terms Terukkuttu and Kattaikkuttu are often used interchangeably in modern times; however, historically, the two terms appear to have distinguished, at least in certain villages, between two different kinds of performance: while Terukkuttu referred to mobile performances in a procession, Kattaikkuttu denotes overnight, narrative performances at a fixed performance space. Koothu as a form of entertainment reached its peak hundreds of years ago in Tamil Nadu, as mentioned in the Sangam texts about the development of iyal (literature), isai (music) and natagam (drama). Going beyond just a means of entertainment, koothu educates the rural people about religion and their history.

Sēkkilān Mādēvadigal Rāmadēva, known popularly by his family name as Sekkizhar, was a saint and a contemporary of Kulottunga Chola II. He compiled and wrote the Periya Puranam in 4253 verses, recounting the life stories of the sixty-three Shaiva Nayanars, the devotees of Shiva. Sekkilhar himself was later canonised and his work, the Periyapuranam became the twelfth and final book of the sacred Saiva canon.

Kulothunga II was a Chola Emperor from 1133 CE to 1150 CE. He succeeded Vikrama Chola to the throne in 1135 CE. Vikrama Chola made Kulothunga his heir apparent and coregent in 1133 CE, so the inscriptions of Kulothunga II count his reign from 1133 CE. According to historians Nilakanta Sastri and T.N Subramanian, Kulottunga Chola II was not the son of Vikrama Chola and they have suggested that there was a break in the line of succession.

He is generally counted as the 39th in the list of 63 Nayanars. Kutruva is often described as a Jain, who became a devotee of Shiva, the patron god of Shaivism.

G. Sakunthala was an Indian actress who worked predominantly in Tamil films and plays.
