Chilean Venezuelans are Venezuelans of Chilean descent or Chileans who have obtained Venezuelan citizenship. This migratory flow was one of the main destinations for exiles from the Pinochet dictatorship, [2] at which time approximately 80,000 people came to Venezuela, [3] in addition to professional migrants motivated by the oil boom occurred between 1950 and 1980. [2]

In 2011, the Miranda State was the state with the highest concentration of Chileans (2,744 in total), followed by the Bolívar State (1,947 in total) and the Capital District (1,334 in total). [1] Several activities are carried out within the Chilean communities of Venezuela, such as the 1973 coup d'état commemoration [4] and the celebration of native land holidays. [5]

Chileans are an ethnic group and nation native to the country of Chile and its neighboring insular territories. Most Chileans share a common culture, history, ancestry and language. The overwhelming majority of Chileans are the product of varying degrees of admixture between European ethnic groups with peoples indigenous to Chile's modern territory. Chile is a multilingual and multicultural society, but an overwhelming majority of Chileans have Spanish as their first language and either are Christians or have a Christian cultural background.

There is a small Chilean diaspora in Mexico. According to the 2010 census, there were 5267 registered Chilean citizens living in Mexico, an increase from the 3,848 registered in the 2000 census. Chilean immigrants constitute the fifth largest community of South Americans in Mexico and the fifteenth largest immigrant community overall.

Centro de Estudios Públicos (CEP) is a non-profit Chilean think tank founded in 1980. Its stated mission is to “contribute to the development of a free and democratic society” through: 1) the analysis and dissemination of philosophical, political, social and economic problems of interest to Chilean society; 2) the study, discussion and design of public policies; and 3) the promotion of institutions that support and enable the existence of a constitutional and democratic order. CEP contributes to the public debate through its seminars, the policy brief Puntos de Referencia, the journal, Estudios Públicos which has appeared continuously since 1980, the publication of books and various research studies, as well as social surveys, which have been conducted since 1987. CEP has become a household name for political, academic, and intellectual debate.

Both nations enjoy friendly relations, the importance of which centers on the history of Chilean migration to Sweden during the 1970s. Both countries are members of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development.

Presidential elections are scheduled to be held in Venezuela in 28 July 2024 to choose a president for a six-year term beginning on 10 January 2025. Leading candidates of the Venezuelan opposition have been disqualified from participating in the election during its campaign or in previous elections. In June 2023, the leading candidate María Corina Machado was barred from participating by the Venezuelan government for alleged political crimes. This move has been regarded by the opposition as violation of political human rights and has been condemned by international bodies like the Organization of American States, the European Union, and Human Rights Watch, as well as countries such as Canada, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, France, Germany, Mexico, Paraguay, the United Kingdom, the United States and Uruguay.
