Chintan Upadhyay (born 1972) is an Indian visual artist, and convicted murderer. He began his art career as a painter, but later created sculptures and installations. [1] His best known sculpture project is perhaps the Pet Shop project, which is an ongoing production of a "model baby" for every season, Baby Fetish. [2] [3] [4]

Early life

Chintan was born on 18 August 1972, in Partapur in Rajasthan, India. [8] He received a BFA degree in 1995, and MFA degree in 1997, both degrees in painting are from the Faculty of Fine Arts from Maharaja Sayajirao University of Baroda in Vadodara, in Gujarat, India. [1]

He met artist Hema Hirani in 1992, and the couple was married in 1998. [2] They settled in Mumbai, and worked together in many art exhibitions. [2] In 2010, they started the process of divorce, which was finalized in 2014. [2]

Double murder conviction

In December 2015, Upadhyay was accused and arrested in connection with the double murder of his estranged wife Hema Upadhyay and her lawyer Haresh Bhambhani. [9] Their bodies were found in khakhi-coloured cardboard boxes floating in a nullah. He was twice denied bail. [10] In October 2023, he was convicted of murder and sentenced to life in prison by a Dindoshi court. [2] [11] [12]

Akbar Padamsee was an Indian artist and painter, considered one of the pioneers in modern Indian painting along with S.H. Raza, F.N. Souza and M.F. Husain. In addition, he worked as a film maker, sculptor, photographer, engraver, and lithographer. Today his paintings are among the most valued by modern Indian artists. Prayag Jha Chillar, also known as Prayag Jha, is a contemporary Indian artist who specializes in etching. Her works are kept in collections all over India, including the National Gallery of Modern Art in the capital, New Delhi. Jha's work has been showcased in solo exhibitions from 1971 to 2012 across Jehangir Art Gallery, Taj Art Gallery, Bajaj Art Gallery, and Art Heritage New Delhi. Her work depicts scenes from the ancient Indian epic Meghdoot and is inspired by natural forms, such as grass and leaves. Jha's earlier works were primarily monochrome, but have evolved to include strong colors.

T. V. Santhosh is an Indian artist based in Mumbai. He obtained his graduate degree in painting from Santiniketan and master's degree in Sculpture from M.S. University, Baroda. Santhosh has acquired a major presence in the Indian and International art scene over the last decade with several successful shows with international galleries and museums. His earlier works tackle global issues of war and terrorism and its representation and manipulation by politics and the media. Santhosh's sculptural installation "Houndingdown" was exhibited in Frank Cohen collection ‘Passage to India’. Some of his prominent museum shows are ‘Aftershock’ at Sainsbury Centre, Contemporary Art Norwich, England in 2007 and ’Continuity and Transformation’ show promoted by Provincia di Milano, Italy. He lives and works in Mumbai.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Pratiksha Apurv</span> Indian painter

Pratiksha Apurv is an Indian painter, whose work is based on her uncle Bhagwan Shree Rajneesh (Osho)' teachings. Before moving to painting, she was a successful fashion designer. Apurv won the National Award 2015-16 given by the Lalit Kala Akademi, Ministry of Culture for her painting 'Cosmic Balance', and has exhibited her artwork across the country. Pakala Tirumal Reddy (1915–1996) was an Indian artist. He was the fifth child born to Ram Reddy and Ramanamma at Annaram village, Karimnagar district, Telangana, India. He received his diploma in painting from J. J. School of Art, Bombay in 1939. He married Yashoda Reddy on 9 May 1947, and she completed a master's of art and Ph.D. degrees and authored over 22 compilations and novels.
