Choi Ji-yeon (born 21 August 1998) is a South Korean ice hockey player and member of the South Korean national ice hockey team,currently [update] playing in the Korean Women's Hockey League (KWHL) with the Suwon City Hall women's ice hockey team. [1]
Choi participated in the women's ice hockey tournament at the 2018 Winter Olympics [2] as part of a unified team of 35 players drawn from both the North Korean and South Korean national teams. The team's coach was Sarah Murray and the team played in Group B,competing against Switzerland,Japan,and Sweden. [3]
The South Korean women's national ice hockey team is controlled by the Korea Ice Hockey Association (KIHA). In 2017,the team was promoted to Division IB after winning the Division IIA World Women's Ice Hockey Championships. As of 2022,the team was ranked 18th in the world.
The North Korean women's national ice hockey team represents North Korea at the International Ice Hockey Federation's IIHF World Women's Championships. The women's national team was created in 1999 and is controlled by Ice Hockey Association of the DPR Korea. North Korea has 920 female players. The North Korean women's national team is ranked 40th in the world.
The ice hockey (hockey) competitions of the 2018 Winter Olympics were played at two venues within the Gangneung Coastal Cluster in Gangneung,South Korea. The Gangneung Hockey Centre,which seats 10,000,and the Kwandong Hockey Centre,which seats 6,000,were both originally scheduled to be completed in 2016 but appear to have been completed in early 2017. Both venues contain Olympic-sized rinks.
The women's tournament in ice hockey at the 2018 Winter Olympics was held in Gangneung,South Korea between 10 and 22 February 2018. Eight countries qualified for the tournament;five of them did so automatically by virtue of their ranking by the International Ice Hockey Federation,one,South Korea,automatically qualified as hosts,while the two others took part in a qualification tournament. Under a special agreement with the IOC and the IIHF,twelve North Korean players joined the host team to form a united team. They were allowed to have an expanded roster of 35 where 22 players dress for each game. Three North Korean players were selected for each game by coach Sarah Murray.

He has served as chief executive officer of both Halla Group and Mando Corporation,founded the Anyang Halla hockey team in 1994,and co-founded Asia League Ice Hockey in 2003. He became involved in international ice hockey as manager of the South Korea men's national ice hockey team in 2003,then became chairman of the Korea Ice Hockey Association in 2013,and implemented a development plan for the men's national team and the South Korea women's national ice hockey team in advance of ice hockey at the 2018 Winter Olympics hosted in South Korea. Under his leadership,the men's national team earned promotion to the top tier at the 2018 IIHF World Championship,and the women's national team played in the 2018 Winter Olympics on a Unified Korea team with North Korea. The International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) has named Chung to its 2020 IIHF Hall of Fame group of inductees.
