Christian Patterson (born 1972, in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, U.S.) is an American photographer known for his Sound Affects and Redheaded Peckerwood series which have received solo exhibitions and been published as books. Redheaded Peckerwood was awarded the Rencontres d'Arles Author Book Award in 2012 [2] and Patterson has been awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship [3] and the Vevey International Photography Award. [4]
In 2002, Patterson moved from Brooklyn, New York to Memphis, Tennessee to work with the photographer William Eggleston. [5] [6] In 2005, he completed his first project, Sound Affects, a collection of color photographs that explore Memphis as a visual and musical place, and use light and color as visual analogues to sound and music. In 2008, a Sound Affects book was published by Edition Kaune, Sudendorf.
Also in 2005, Patterson began working on his second project, Redheaded Peckerwood, which is loosely inspired by the late 1950s killing spree of Charles Starkweather and Caril Ann Fugate across Nebraska. Photographs are the heart of this work, but they are complemented and informed by documents and objects[ vague ] that belonged to the killers and their victims. Later that year, Patterson moved back to New York.
In 2011, a Redheaded Peckerwood book was published by Mack and named one of the best photobooks of the year by many critics. [7] The book was nominated for the 2012 Kraszna-Krausz Book Awards [8] and won the 2012 Recontres d'Arles Author Book Award. [2] It is introduced in The Photobook: A History, Vol. 3, edited by Gerry Badger and Martin Parr. [9]
In 2015, Patterson completed Bottom of the Lake, a project revisiting his hometown of Fond du Lac, Wisconsin (French for "Bottom of the Lake"). A book was published by Koenig Books and takes the form of a facsimile of the artist's family's 1973 telephone book from Fond du Lac, with Patterson's own photographs, drawings and notes inserted. Like Redheaded Peckerwood, this new work mixes large-format colour landscapes, black-and-white snapshots, appropriated and manipulated archival images, and studio still lifes. As an installation and exhibition, the work includes an interactive rotary telephone object and wooden sculpture.
Nicholas David Gordon Knight is a British fashion photographer and founder and director of SHOWstudio.com. He is an honorary professor at University of the Arts London and was awarded an honorary Ph.D. by the same university. He has produced books of his work including retrospectives Nicknight (1994) and Nick Knight (2009). In 2016, Knight's 1992 campaign photograph for fashion brand Jil Sander was sold by Phillips auction house at the record-breaking price of HKD 2,360,000.
Stephen Shore is an American photographer known for his images of scenes and objects of the banal, and for his pioneering use of color in art photography. His books include Uncommon Places (1982) and American Surfaces (1999), photographs that he took on cross-country road trips in the 1970s.

Mike Brodie, also known as the "Polaroid Kid" or "Polaroid Kidd", is an American photographer. Since 2003, Brodie has freighthopped across the US, photographing people he encountered, largely train-hoppers, vagabonds, squatters, and hobos. He has published A Period of Juvenile Prosperity (2013), Tones of Dirt and Bone (2015), and the box of reproduction Polaroids Polaroid Kid (2023).
Kikuji Kawada is a Japanese photographer. He co-founded the Vivo photographic collective in 1959. Kawada's books include Chizu and The Last Cosmology (1995). He was included in the New Japanese Photography exhibition at the Museum of Modern Art, New York in 1974 and was awarded the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Photographic Society of Japan in 2011.
Masahisa Fukase was a Japanese photographer, celebrated for his work depicting his domestic life with his wife Yōko Wanibe and his regular visits to his parents' small-town photo studio in Hokkaido. He is best known for his 1986 book Karasu, which in 2010 was selected by the British Journal of Photography as the best photobook published between 1986 and 2009. Since his death in 2012 there has been a revival of interest in Fukase's photography, with new books and exhibitions appearing that emphasize the breadth and originality of his art.
Eugene Richards is an American documentary photographer living in Brooklyn, New York. He has published many books of photography and has been a member of Magnum Photos and of VII Photo Agency. He was born in Dorchester, Massachusetts.
Jean-Christian Bourcart is a French artistic photographer and film maker. He collected unsold wedding pictures, photographed in brothels and S&M cubs, photographed New Yorkers stuck in traffic jams, projected pictures of Iraqi victims on American houses, churches and supermarkets, wrote and published his autobiography and documented lengthy the city of Camden, NJ, one of the poorest and most dangerous city in the USA. He also directed two fiction feature movies, the first one during the war in Bosnia, the second, a sci-fi thriller in New York art world, starring the awards-winner Elodie Bouchez. He is also an active video filmmaker. Nine books about his work have been published. He has been teaching and conducting workshops all along his career. In 2021, all his archives were deposited at the musée Nicephore Niepce in Chalon-sur-Saône in France.

10x10 Photobooks is a non-profit organization founded to "foster engagement with the global photobook community through an appreciation, dissemination and understanding of photobooks." Founded in 2012, 10x10 is a presenter of public photobook events, including reading rooms, salons, and online communities, as well as a publisher of art catalogs representing the photobook medium. "Photo books are now recognized as a separate art form, a subgenre of the larger universe of photography, and their importance has prompted a recent spate of books about photo books.""10×10 was inspired in part by lack of direct access for the general public to many of these books, some of which were published decades ago in limited editions." Together, they organizes public events in the form of salons and what they call "reading rooms" — touring interactive exhibitions of photobooks that invite viewers to sit and leaf through a curated selection of works. In addition to this public programming, 10x10 publishes their own books based on specific themes that coincide with some of their major reading rooms.
Chris Boot is a British photography curator, book publisher, and has worked in a variety of other roles related to photography. He was director of London’s Photo Co-op, director of the London and New York offices of Magnum Photos, editorial director at Phaidon Press, founder of Chris Boot Ltd. a photography book publisher, and is now executive director of Aperture Foundation. In these roles he has commissioned, edited or published a number of noteworthy photography books.

Raymond Meeks is an American photographer. "Much of his work focuses on memory and place, and captures daily life with his family." He has published a number of books including Pretty Girls Wander (2011) which "chronicles his daughter's journey from adolescence to adulthood"; and Ciprian Honey Cathedral (2020), which contains symbolic, figurative photographs taken in and around a new house, and of his partner just before waking from sleep. Meeks is co-founder of Orchard Journal, in which he collaborates with others.
