Christiane Pilz (born 3 August 1975) is a German triathlete who competed at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing. [1]
Pilz started out both as a sailor and a swimmer for thirteen years, until she began with her triathlon career at the age of twenty. In 1997, she was admitted to the club PSV Rostock, and won several titles at the national championships for both triathlon and duathlon. Pilz reached into the international stage in triathlon, when she placed twelfth at the 1999 ETU Triathlon European Championships in Funchal, Madeira, Portugal, and in 2000, she claimed her first medal at the FISU World University Triathlon Championships in Tiszaújváros, Hungary.
Between 2000 and 2004, Pilz took part in several ITU European and World Championships, and had achieved at least five top-ten finishes. Her best result happened in 2002, when she obtained her first major championship title at the ITU Triathlon European Cup in Hamburg. [2] She was selected to the national team for the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece, but eventually withdrew from the competition, because of an elbow injury from a cycling accident. Having missed out of the Olympics, Pilz was able to persist and perform well in triathlon, as she claimed one silver and two bronze medals, and had reached four more top-ten positions at the ITU Triathlon World Cup. She had an opportunity to compete at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, after finishing seventh at the ITU Triathlon World Cup in Madrid, Spain, and qualified for the last berth, against her compatriot Joelle Franzmann. [2] At the Olympics, Pilz finished twenty-sixth out of 55 competitors in the women's triathlon, with a time of 2:03:46.
Pilz is currently a member of SC Neubrandenburg, coached by Klaus-Peter Weippert and Christian Bartsch, and works as a police department official in Rostock, Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
Katherine Jessie Jean "Kate" Allen is an Australian-Austrian triathlete. She won the gold medal in the women's triathlon at the 2004 Summer Olympics in Athens.
Elizabeth Nicola "Liz" Holst May is a female athlete from Luxembourg, who competed in triathlon from 2000 to 2013. May is a 2011 Aquathlon World Champion and is a 2009 European Championship silver medalist. May competed at the Olympic triathlon at the 2004 Summer Olympics and 2008 Summer Olympics. She finished in seventeenth place in Athens with a total time of 2:08:29.22.
Lenka Radová-Zemanová is a triathlete from the Czech Republic, who competed at two Olympic games. At the 2004 Summer Olympics, Radová-Zemanová finished in twenty-sixth place for the women's triathlon with a total time of 2:09:54. Meanwhile, at the 2008 Summer Olympics, Radová-Zemanová started out of the competition by maintaining her pace in the swimming leg of the women's event. Finishing in twenty-fourth place at both swimming and first transition phases, Radová-Zemanová had moved her way into a small group of competitors chasing the breakaways of the 40-km cycling race, until she crashed her bike and did not finish the race.
Andrea Hansen is a New Zealand triathlete who placed third at the 2009 ITU Triathlon World Championships and competed at the 2008, 2012, and 2016 Summer Olympics.
Francisco Javier Gómez Noya is a Spanish triathlete. He is the winner of five ITU Triathlon World Championships, he holds three ITU Triathlon World Cup titles, and won the Silver medal for Spain at the 2012 Summer Olympics in men's triathlon. He has also won world titles for Ironman 70.3 and XTERRA Triathlon.
Irina Alekseyevna Abysova is a Russian open water swimmer and professional triathlete.
