Charles E. "Chuck" Brymer (born July 30, 1959) is an American businessman, marketing strategist, author, and former President and CEO of DDB Worldwide, an advertising agency. [1] [2] [3] [4] [5]

Early years

Chuck Brymer was born in Louisville, Kentucky the third of four children of Natalie and Robert L. Brymer, then a senior advertising executive at McCann Erikson. [3] [6] He graduated from the University of Kentucky's College of Communications & Information with a Bachelor of Arts in communications in 1981. [5]

Career

Brymer worked at various television stations and ad agencies during college. In 1982, he opened and ran BBDO's Houston office at age 24. [3] [4] [6] [7] During his tenure at BBDO, Brymer worked on the company's Chrysler account. [3] [7] He left BBDO for Interbrand, a global branding consulting firm in 1985. In 1986, while at Interbrand, Chuck Brymer was named one of Fortune Magazine's People to Watch at age 27. [8]

At Interbrand, Brymer served as founding president of the British company's U.S. Division. [3] [4] [9] [10] He also worked closely with Interbrand founder and CEO John Murphy. Interbrand was purchased by Omnicom Group in 1993. [3] [4] [11] In 1994, Omnicom appointed Brymer president and CEO of Interbrand. [3] [4] [10] [11] During Brymer's tenure as CEO, Interbrand added multiple international offices. [10]

In 2006, at age 46, Brymer became president and CEO of Omnicom-owned DDB Worldwide, overseeing the company's 200 offices worldwide. [1] [2] [3] [4] He was replaced by Wendy Clark in 2018. [12]

Brymer also helped create Businessweek's "World's Most Valuable Brands" feature. [3] [9] [13] He has advised the U.S. State Department on the United States' international image. [5] [7]

Brymer is active in corporate governance. [14] [15] [16] He was appointed to the boards of Regal Entertainment Group and the Ad Council in 2007. [14] [15] Brymer also serves on the board of Chamber of Commerce of the United States. [16]

He is married to Tracy Brymer. He has four children.

The proposed merger of Publicis and Omnicom was a proposed advertising industry merger between Publicis and Omnicom, announced on July 28, 2013. The resulting company would have been called Publicis Omnicom Group, and would have been the world's biggest advertising group with market capitalisation of $35.1 billion, pro-forma revenue of $22.7 billion, and more than 130,000 employees across the world. After the merger, Publicis Omnicom and WPP would have been the largest advertising groups in the world., followed at a distance by Dentsu and Interpublic Group of Companies. The Publicis and Omnicom chief executives heralded the proposed operation as a "merger of equals" saying that Publicis and Omnicom shareholders will each hold about 50 percent of the new group's equity.
