The City of Adelaide Pipe Band is a grade two pipe band, based in City of Adelaide, South Australia. The band has won grade one at the 1998 Australian Championships and Grade two in 2008. It placed 4th in grade one at the New Zealand and South Pacific Championships, in Dunedin in 1999. The band is led by Pipe Major Andrew Fuller and Drum Sergeant George Ujvary, and is a member of the South Australian Pipe Band Association.

History

The City of Adelaide Pipe Band was formed to provide a high level competitive band, and an entertaining alternative to the city's brass band for the public. Formed in 1991 by a small group of senior musicians led by Brett Tidswell. The band wore the Drummond of Perth tartan, and bears the coat of arms of the City of Adelaide on cap badges, pipe banners and drums.

By 1992, the band was already competing in the South Australian competition at a grade two level, and earned its first title at the South Australian Pipe Band Championships, in Greenock. One year later, it won the Victorian Pipe Band Championships in Ringwood along with the South Australian competition title, which has remained in the band's hands for almost two decades.

During 1998, the band competed at a grade one level, winning the grade one title in the Australian Pipe Band world, first place in the Australian Pipe Band Championships held at Newcastle. [1] In the same year, the band also received first-place prizes in South Australia (grades one and two) and Victoria (grade one).

In 2006, the band changed from its Drummond of Perth Tartan to the Blue Ramsay. City of Adelaide was also re-graded to grade 2 in 2006, and performed at the Festival Interceltique de Lorient in France. [2]

In 2016, Brett Tidswell stepped down from the Pipe Major's position, after 25 years of running the band. Andrew Fuller was then elected as the new Pipe Major.

The band has an extensive learners and development program for pipers and drummers conducted at the Payneham RSL on Monday evenings.

He writes the "Sound Technique" column for the National Piping Centre’s bi-monthly Piping Today Magazine. The New York Times featured Chisholm's online teaching program, BagpipeLessons.com, and described him as a "top-tier teacher" in a front-page story about the growth of Skype music lessons. A cover story in American Profile Magazine named Chisholm one of the "world's elite pipers."

City of Whitehorse Pipe Band

The City of Whitehorse (CoWPB) is a grade one pipe band, based in Nunawading, Victoria, Australia. The band's previous incarnations had been successful on the Australian Pipe Band competition circuit for numerous years, and was placed 11th in the final tables of the World Pipe Band Championships in 2006. The band reformed in 2014 and was led by Pipe Major George Shepherd and Drum Sergeant Olav Goud. The band ceased operations in 2016 following the decision of Pipe Bands Australia to terminate the band's membership following a protracted period of behaviour deemed unacceptable by the association

Western Australia Police Pipe Band Grade 1 pipe band in Perth, Australia

The Western Australia Police Pipe Band (WAPOL) is an Australian competitive pipe band organization based in Perth, Western Australia associated with the Western Australia Police.

The Victoria Police Pipe Band is a former Grade One World Pipe Band Championship-winning pipe band based in Melbourne, Australia. The band still operates today, though with reduced numbers and not competitively, after a controversial decision in 2000 to reshape it.

Prince Charles Pipe Band American pipe band organization

Founded in 1967 to train young people in piping and drumming, the Prince Charles Pipe Band is an extensive organization which includes Grade 2, Grade 3 and Grade 5 pipe bands. The Grade 2 band was re-formed in late 2008 with a combination of members from the now defunct Grade 1 band, and newer talent from the lower grade bands. Throughout its history in many different competitive classes, the band has won major prizes including the Grade 2 World Pipe Band Championship in 2000, after which the band became of only three Grade 1 bands in the United States. Prior to their Grade 1 placement, the Prince Charles Pipe Band frequently achieved high placings internationally in Scotland's major competitions as a junior and Grade 3 band.

Coastal Scottish Pipe Band Australian pipe band

The Coastal Scottish Pipe Band, also known simply as 'Coastals', is a grade 3 pipe band based in Perth, Western Australia. The band was formed in 1898, and along with the City of Melbourne Highland Pipe Band is one of the oldest pipe bands in Australia. Their many recent successes include winning the 2007 New Zealand Pipe Band Championships, held in Dunedin.

The World Pipe Band Championships is a pipe band competition held in Glasgow, Scotland. The World Pipe Band Championships as we currently know them have been staged since 1947 although the Grade 1 Pipe Band Competition winners at the annual Cowal Highland Gathering were recognised as World Champions as far back as 1906. Although titled "The World Pipe Band Championship" this designation was made by the Royal Scottish Pipe Band Association (RSPBA) without consulting any other Pipe Band Association. Even though bands around the world compete the vast majority of bands that enter are from the United Kingdom. For competitive bands, the title of World Champion is highly coveted, and this event is seen as the culmination of a year's worth of preparation, rehearsal and practice. There are no qualifications to enter, bands do not have to enter or win any other competitions. The Pipes & Drums of The Royal Caledonian Society of South Australia were first established in 1894 and are based in the City of Adelaide, South Australia. The band has also performed at the Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo in Edinburgh in 2001, 2007, and most recently in 2011, and the Basel Tattoo in 2013, and has performed at the Australian hosted Edinburgh Military Tattoos in 2005 and 2010.

The Spirit of Scotland Pipe Band is a pipe band formed from top-class solo players.
