Claude Bizibuye Nyamugabo is a Congolese politician who served as the Mayor of Kigali City from 2011 to 2017. He was also the Minister of the Environment and Sustainable Development in the Ilunga government between September 2019 and April 2021. [1] [2] [3]

Background

Early life

Claude Bizimana Nyamugabo was born on August 12, 1960, in the former Kibungo Prefecture, Rwanda. He grew up in a family of farmers and was the youngest of six children. He completed his primary and secondary education in Kibungo before moving to the capital city, Kigali, to pursue higher education. [1]

Career

Nyamugabo started his career as a teacher and later worked as a lecturer at the National University of Rwanda. He entered politics in the early 2000s and served as a councilor in Kigali City Council before becoming the Mayor of Kigali City in 2011. During his tenure as Mayor, Nyamugabo focused on urban development, infrastructure improvement, and social services enhancement. [1] [4]

On 25 November 2007, Nyamugabo was appointed as the Deputy Minister of Human rights of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, under Antoine Gizenga's second cabinet [2] [5] [4] that ran from 25 November 2007.

As of January 2014, Bazibuhe was the commander of the PPRD's armed wing in the DRC. From October 2017 to March 2019 he was governor of the province of South Kivu. He is Minister of SMEs (Small and Medium Enterprises) in the Muzito I government between 2008 and 2010.

Nyamugabo is the member of Unified Lumumbist Party (ULP).

Achievements

Some of Nyamugabo's notable achievements include:

- Implementing the Kigali City Master Plan, which aimed to transform Kigali into a modern and sustainable city.

- Launching the "Clean Kigali" initiative, which improved sanitation and waste management in the city.

- Establishing the Kigali City Public Transport System, which improved public transportation and reduced traffic congestion.

- Developing the Kigali City Economic Development Strategy, which aimed to promote economic growth and job creation.

Other ventures

In addition to his political career, Nyamugabo has also worked as a consultant for several international organizations, including the United Nations Development Programme and the World Bank. He has also served as a board member for several organizations, including the Rwanda Investment and Export Promotion Agency and the Kigali City Private Sector Federation.

Awards and honors

Nyamugabo has received several awards for his contributions to urban development and public service, including the Rwandan Ministry of Local Government's Best Mayor Award and the African Mayor's Award for Innovation in Urban Development.

Nkunda, who is himself a Congolese born Tutsi, commanded the former DRC troops of the 81st and 83rd Brigades of the DRC Army. He speaks English, French, Swahili, Kinyarwanda, Lingala and Kinande. On January 22, 2009, he was put under house arrest in Gisenyi when he was called for a meeting to plan a joint operation between the Congolese and Rwandan militaries.

Norbert Nkulu Mitumba Kilombo is a politician in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. In the first cabinet of Prime Minister Antoine Gizenga, formed on 5 February 2007, he was named Minister of State to the President of the Republic. He retained this position in the Gizenga's second cabinet, announced on 25 November 2007.

Emmanuel Mbona Kolini is a Congolese-Rwandan Anglican bishop. He was the second Primate of the Episcopal Church of Rwanda, named Anglican Church of Rwanda in 2007, from 1998 to 2011. He is married and a father of eight children. Kolini currently serves as the rector of the Anglican Mission in the Americas College of Consultors.

The March 23 Movement, often abbreviated as M23 and also known as the Congolese Revolutionary Army, is a Congolese rebel military group. Based in eastern areas of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), it operates mainly in the province of North Kivu, which borders both Uganda and Rwanda. The M23 rebellion of 2012 to 2013 against the DRC government led to the displacement of large numbers of people. On 20 November 2012, M23 took control of Goma, a provincial capital with a population of a million people, but it was requested to evacuate it by the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region because the DRC government had finally agreed to negotiate. In late 2012, Congolese troops, along with UN troops, retook control of Goma, and M23 announced a ceasefire and said that it wanted to resume peace talks.

Silas Stanislaus Bernard Lwakabamba or simply SilasLwakabamba, is a Tanzanian engineer, academic and politician. Since May 2021, he has been serving as the Regional Managing Director of Coventry University African Hub, based in Kigali, Rwanda. Lwakabamba holds a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from University of Leeds in England since 1975. Since 1997, he served as the founding Rector of Rwanda’s Kigali Institute of Science and Technology. Félix Antoine Tshisekedi Tshilombo is a Congolese politician who has been the president of the Democratic Republic of the Congo since 24 January 2019. He is the leader of the Union for Democracy and Social Progress (UDPS), the DRC's oldest and largest party, succeeding his late father Étienne Tshisekedi in that role, a three-time Prime Minister of Zaire and opposition leader during the reign of Mobutu Sese Seko.

The Rwanda Standard Gauge Railway is a standard gauge railway (SGR) system, under development, linking the country to the neighboring countries of Tanzania and Uganda. It is intended to ease the transfer of goods between the Indian Ocean ports of Dar es Salaam and Mombasa, and the Rwandan capital Kigali. The system is expected to link, in the future, to Rwanda's two other neighbors, Burundi and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, as part of the East African Railway Master Plan. With no previously existing railway network, Rwanda is developing its railway system from scratch. The project is dependent on the construction of the Tanzanian and Ugandan SGR lines to the Rwandan border, which have not been completed as of October 2023.

Pardonne Kaliba Mulanga is a Congolese politician. On 5 February 2007, he was appointed as the Minister of Youth and Sports of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, under Antoine Gizenga Government that ran from 25 November 2007 under the leadership of Prime Minister Antoine Gizenga. He is a member of Unified Lumumbist Party (ULP). He died on 18 July 2024.

César Lubamba Ngimbi is a Congolese politician. On 25 November 2007, he was appointed as the Deputy Minister of Finance of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, under Antoine Gizenga's second cabinet that ran from 25 November 2007. He is the member of Unified Lumumbist Party (ULP).
