Denys Mbuyu Manga (born 20 November 1939) is a Congolese politician and a law professor. He was appointed on 28 May 2007 as a Minister of Foreign Trade by the President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo Joseph Kabila Kabange, a position he held until 10 October 2008. He is a member of Unified Lumumbist Party (ULP). [1]

Background

Early life and education

Manga was born on 20 November 1939 in Kabalo in the Katanga region of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Apart from a series of participations in international forums, Manda has several diplomas including the Doctorate in law from the University of Paris II - Panthéon. He graduated from the Institute of Political Studies of Paris (IEP Paris) commonly known as Sciences Po Paris. Holds a specialist degree in labour law and sociology at the Free University of Brussels. [2] [3] [4]

He also graduated in law from the Université libre de Bruxelles. He farhermore has a degree in public administration from the National School of Administration (ENA Kinshasa). [5]

Political career

Since 1992, Munya has been the Director of the National School of Finance. In 2007, the President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Joseph Kabila, appointed him as the Minister of Foreign Trade in the Gizenka I then II government.

During his career Munya also held the following positions:

Personal life

Denis Mbuyu Manga is married to Mbuyu Tshilomba Hélène. They have seven children: Patrick, Alphonse, Marguerite, Denis, Hélène, Nathalie and Jean-Luc Mbuyu, the founder of JLM Realty.

Following the war, he was one of the vice-presidents in the transitional government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo between 2003-2006. He was a member of the People's Party for Reconstruction and Democracy (PPRD) until September 2015. He has been described by The Economist as "probably the second most powerful man in the Democratic Republic of Congo after the president, Joseph Kabila". Denis Kalume Numbi is a general and a politician in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC). He was part of the Antoine Gizenga government as Minister of State for the Interior, Decentralization and Security. He was replaced in this position on 26 October 2008 by Celestin Mbuyu Kabango when the government headed by Adolphe Muzito was formed.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Republican Guard (Democratic Republic of the Congo)</span> Military unit

The Republican Guard of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, formerly known as the Special Presidential Security Group, is maintained by President Félix Tshisekedi. Military of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (FARDC) military officials state that the Garde Républicaine is not the responsibility of FARDC, but the Head of State. Apart from Article 140 of the Law on the Army and Defence, no legal stipulation on the DRC's Armed Forces makes provision for the GR as a distinct unit within the national army. In February 2005, President Joseph Kabila passed a decree which appointed the GR's commanding officer and 'repealed any previous provisions contrary' to that decree. The GR is more than 10,000 strong, and formerly consisted of three brigades, the 10th, at Kinshasa, the 15th, and the 16th, at Lubumbashi. It has better working conditions and is paid regularly, but still commits numerous crimes near their bases, including against United Nations officials.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">December 2013 Kinshasa attacks</span> Rioting by followers of Paul Joseph Mukungubila in DR Congo

Attacks in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, were launched by supporters of religious leader Paul Joseph Mukungubila against television studios, the airport and a military base in the capital on 30 December 2013. The state security forces responded, killing around 54 of the attackers. An additional 47 of Mukungubila's supporters were killed in separate clashes in the cities of Lubumbashi and Kolwezi and around 100 people were arrested.

Paul Joseph Mukungubila Mutombo is a Congolese religious and political figure. He is the leader of the "Church of the Lord Jesus Christ", established in Kinshasa, Lubumbashi, Kolwezi, Kalemie, Brussels, Paris and Washington DC area. He declared himself "prophet of the Lord" for "the Ministry of Restoration from Sub-Saharan Africa".

<span class="mw-page-title-main">December 2016 Congolese protests</span>

On 20 December 2016 the Democratic Republic of the Congo's president, Joseph Kabila, announced that he would not leave office despite the end of his constitutional term. Protests subsequently broke out across the country, which had never had a peaceful transfer of power since it gained independence in 1960. The protests were met with the government's blocking of social media, and violence from security forces which left dozens dead. Foreign governments condemned the attacks against protesters.

Sylvestre Ilunga Ilunkamba is a Congolese politician who was appointed as the Prime Minister of the Democratic Republic of the Congo in May 2019, formally establishing his government in August 2019. He has had a long political career going back to the 1970s, having held a number of ministerial cabinet posts, and was previously a professor at the University of Kinshasa since 1979. Ilunga has also been the secretary general of Congo's national railway company. He has a reputation as an experienced public servant and technocrat, as well as an ally of former President Joseph Kabila.
