Clova is an intelligent personal assistant for Android and iOS operating systems developed by Naver Corporation and Line Corporation (a subsidiary of Naver). Clova, short for "cloud virtual assistant", was officially introduced on 1 March 2017. [1] It was first launched in the Apple App Store and Google Play Store as intelligent personal assistant app.

In August 2017, it was announced that the artificial intelligence platform would be used in their smart speaker series. The Wave speaker, released in Korea as Wave [2] (sometimes referred to as Naver Wave) and in Japan as Line Wave for the Korean and Japanese markets [3] ), is the first smart speaker that uses Clova. The Friends speaker (or Clova Wave in Japan), a LINE Friends character themed speaker, was the second smart speaker powered by the platform.

In October 2020, Naver released 'Clova Lamp', an AI light that reads books. It works when you open a book under the camera on the lamp and press the book reading button or say 'Clova, read me a book.' This product can read books in English as well as Korean. [4]

Interface

Clova Interface Connect is Clova's platform service for hardware manufacturers and IOT companies. It's a simple way to connect Clova to speakers, microphones, and any device that's online. Clova Interface Connect provides APIs, SDKs, and development documentation to connect Clova to your devices and provide voice-based services. This can be applied to a wide range of products, including everyday mobile devices, cars, security system smart speakers, and home IoT devices like robotic vacuum cleaners." [5]

A smart speaker is a type of loudspeaker and voice command device with an integrated virtual assistant that offers interactive actions and hands-free activation with the help of one "hot word". Some smart speakers can also act as a smart device that utilizes Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and other protocol standards to extend usage beyond audio playback, such as to control home automation devices. This can include, but is not limited to, features such as compatibility across a number of services and platforms, peer-to-peer connection through mesh networking, virtual assistants, and others. Each can have its own designated interface and features in-house, usually launched or controlled via application or home automation software. Some smart speakers also include a screen to show the user a visual response.

Amazon Lex is a service for building conversational interfaces into any application using voice and text. It powers the Amazon Alexa virtual assistant. In April 2017, the platform was released to the developer community, and suggested that it could be used for conversational interfaces including Web, mobile apps, robots, toys, drones, and more. Amazon already had launched Alexa Voice Services, which developers can use to integrate Alexa into their own devices, like smart speakers, alarm clocks, etc.; however, Lex will not require that end users interact with the Alexa assistant per se, but rather any type of assistant or interface. As of February 2018, users can now define a response for Amazon Lex chatbots directly from the AWS management console.

Aside from common tasks, such as internet search or weather forecasts, it can also run applications and chit-chat. Alice is also the virtual assistant used for the Yandex Station smart speaker.

AliGenie is a China-based open-platform intelligent personal assistant launched and developed by Alibaba Group, currently used in the Tmall Genie smart speaker. The platform was introduced in 2017, along with the Tmall Genie X1, at Alibaba's 2017 Computing Conference in Hangzhou.

Wave is a smart speaker developed by Naver Corporation and Line Corporation. Wave was the first speaker to be powered by intelligent personal assistant Clova. The product has a cylindrical shape with colored status LEDs on the top and bottom of the device and touch buttons on the top. Voice commands is currently only available in Japanese and Korean.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Friends (smart speaker)</span>

Friends is a LINE character-themed smart speaker developed by Naver Corporation and Line Corporation. The device is the second smart speaker that is powered by intelligent personal assistant Clova. Introduced in December 2017, Friends has a cylindrical shape and has the appearance of the characters in LINE Friends – Brown the bear and Sally the chick, providing two versions – Friends BROWN and Friends SALLY. The "Action" button, which activates the device, is placed on the nose of the character, while a LED indicator and other buttons such as volume and bluetooth settings are placed on the back. The LED ring are placed at the bottom of Friends.

Wraith: The Oblivion – The Orpheus Device is an audio-based adventure video game developed by Earplay and published by Paradox Interactive on October 29, 2020 for Android, iOS, and smart speakers, and is played using the virtual assistants Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant, or the Earplay mobile app. It is based on White Wolf Publishing's tabletop role-playing games Wraith: The Oblivion (1994) and Orpheus (2003), and is part of the larger World of Darkness series.
