Roger A. Beaver is a biologist who has worked at University College of North Wales, Chiang Mai University, the University of Zambia and the University of the South Pacific. He has published several important papers on Nepenthes infauna, including "Fauna and food webs of pitcher plants in West Malaysia" (1979), "The communities living in Nepenthes pitcher plants: fauna and food webs" (1983), and "Geographical variation in food web structure in Nepenthes pitcher plants" (1985). The species Cryptoxilos beaveri was named in his honour.

It is short-legged, the front of the males head is notched, the female possesses a wide elevated transverse ridge, and the hind abdomen of both is round.
Scolytus multistriatus, the European elm bark beetle or smaller European elm bark beetle, is a bark beetle species in the genus Scolytus. In Europe, while S. multistriatus acts as vector of the Dutch elm disease, caused by the Ascomycota Ophiostoma ulmi, it is much less effective than the large elm bark beetle, S. scolytus.
Dysmerus is a genus of beetles in the family Laemophloeidae. Scolytus schevyrewi, the banded elm bark beetle, is a 3–4 mm long elm bark beetle species in the genus Scolytus native from Asia and accidentally introduced to North America. It is a vector of the Dutch elm disease, caused by the Ascomycota Ophiostoma ulmi and Ophiostoma novo-ulmi. In North America, it is displacing both the native elm bark beetle and the previously introduced smaller European elm bark beetle, which are becoming less common in their range with the expansion of S. schevyrewi.
