Ahazueros Jacobus Breman, known as Co (7 December 1865, Zwolle - 18 November 1938, Laren) was a Dutch painter. [1] He specialized in landscapes, farms and interior scenes, with figures, and was one of the first Pointillist painters in the Netherlands. [2]
His father, Willem Fredrik Breman (1829-1875), owned a carpentry and blacksmithing shop. He had five siblings, including Evert Breman, a well-known architect. After his father's death, he was placed with guardians who encouraged his artistic inclinations. [3] His first formal lessons were at a local art school operated by Jan Derk Huibers, who worked in traditional styles. In 1889, he went to Brussels, where he found work doing decorative painting while he studied at the Academie Royal des Beaux Arts. [3] In 1893, he spent some time in Paris.
He then went to Amsterdam, where he joined the Guild of Saint Luke and Arti et Amicitiae. In 1897, based on the recommendations of his associates, he settled in Gooi. Then, he and several friends opened studios in an old brewery in Blaricum; becoming well known locally for their Bohemian lifestyles. [3] Two years later, he had become successful enough to purchase a house, where their behavior became even more riotous. They were also regular visitors to a former pub owned by Jan Hamdorff , a hotelier, Alderman and, most importantly, art dealer, who opened a gallery there in 1913. [3]
He was the secretary of a local painter's club called "De Tien" (The Ten), that presented regular exhibitions. He also showed his works in Madrid, Berlin, London, San Francisco and Glasgow. [4] [3]
From 1913, he and his wife, the artist Lizzy Schouten [5] lived in Laren, where they had a daughter. From 1921 until his death, he was President of the "Kunstenaarsvereniging Laren-Blaricum" (Artists' Society). A street in Laren is named after him. Most of his major works may be seen at the Frans Hals Museum, the Dordrechts Museum and the Singer Museum. [3]
Laren is a town and municipality in the province of North Holland, Netherlands. Located in the Gooi region, it is the oldest town in the area. Together with its neighbor Blaricum, Laren is one of the most affluent towns in the Netherlands.

Herman Heijenbrock, was a Dutch writer, painter, pastel draughtsman, and lithographer. He founded the "Museum van den Arbeid" in 1923, which later became NEMO Science Museum.
August Allebé was an artist and teacher from the Northern Netherlands. His early paintings were in a romantic style, but in his later work he was an exponent of realism and impressionism. He was a major initiator and promoter of Amsterdam Impressionism, the artist's association St. Lucas, and the movement of the Amsterdamse Joffers. Amsterdam Impressionism – sometimes referred to by art historians as the School of Allebé – was the counterflow to the very strong Hague School in the movement of Dutch Impressionism. As a professor at the Royal Academy of Amsterdam he fostered a cosmopolitan attitude toward art and the promotion and motivation of his students, and provided a significant stimulus to developments in modern art.

Hubert Louis Marie van Nispen van Sevenaer (1879–1958) was a Dutch politician and nobleman with the title of Jonkheer. He was born on 6 August 1879 in Zevenaar. He was mayor of Laren from 1909 until 1943 and from 1945 until 1946. He was also mayor of neighboring Blaricum from 1913 to 1922. His term was interrupted during World War II. The Dutch government at the time banned anyone from employment after age 65, even though he wanted to keep working, especially after having lost everything during the war.
Sigisbert Chrétien Bosch Reitz, known as Gijs (1860-1938) was a Dutch painter in the Impressionist and Symbolist styles. He was also associated with the Laren School.
The Laren School is the name of an art colony located in the Dutch village, Laren, in the Gooi near Hilversum. The artists of this offshoot of the Hague School chose the inhabitants of Laren and the surrounding landscape as the subject of their art.
Franz Wilhelm Maria Deutmann was a Dutch painter and photographer. He was a member of Arti et Amicitiae and is considered to be part of the Laren School, an offshoot of the Hague School, which is an independent part of the international movement of impressionism.
