The Sturgeon Bay Ship Canal is a ship canal connecting Sturgeon Bay with Lake Michigan across the Door Peninsula in Door County, Wisconsin. A dredged channel continues through Sturgeon Bay to Green Bay. This combined waterway allows ships to sail between Lake Michigan and Green Bay without traversing the dangerous Porte des Morts strait.
SS Carl D. Bradley was an American self-unloading Great Lakes freighter that sank in a Lake Michigan storm on November 18, 1958. Of the 35 crew members, 33 died in the sinking. Twenty-three were from the port town of Rogers City, Michigan, United States. Her sinking was likely caused by structural failure from the brittle steel used in her construction.
The Eagle Bluff Light, also known as Eagle Bluff lighthouse, or simply Eagle Bluff, is a lighthouse located near Ephraim in Peninsula State Park in Door County, Wisconsin. Construction was authorized in 1866, but the lighthouse was not actually built until 1868 at a cost of $12,000. It was automated in 1926. Restoration work began on the Eagle Bluff Light in 1960 and was completed in 1963, upon completion the Lighthouse was opened for tours. The lighthouse was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1970.

A Coast Guard Air Station provides aviation support for the United States Coast Guard. The Coast Guard operates approximately 210 aircraft from 24 Coast Guard Air Stations in the United States. Fixed-wing aircraft, such as the HC-130 Hercules, are built for long range missions and operate from air stations. The MH-65D Dolphin and Sikorsky HH-60 Jayhawk helicopters also operate from Air Stations, Air Facilities and flight deck equipped cutters.

The Sturgeon Point Light Station is a lighthouse on Lake Huron in Haynes Township, Alcona County, northeastern lower Michigan. Established to ward mariners off a reef that extends 1.5 miles (2.4 km) lakeward from Sturgeon Point, it is today regarded as a historic example of a Cape Cod style Great Lakes lighthouse.
A Sector is a shore-based operational unit of the United States Coast Guard. Each Sector is responsible for the execution of all Coast Guard missions within its Area of Responsibility (AOR), with operational support from Coast Guard Cutters and Air Stations. Subordinate commands within a Sector typically include Stations and Aids-to-Navigation (ATON) Teams. Some Sector commands also have subordinate units such as Sector Field Offices and Marine Safety Units that are responsible for mission execution in parts of the Sector's AOR. There are 37 sectors within the Coast Guard.
USCGC Mobile Bay (WTGB-103) is an active icebreaking tug under the direction of the United States Coast Guard. Her homeport is located in Sturgeon Bay, Wisconsin. She is one of two ships in her class that has been equipped with a 120-foot (37 m) aids-to-navigation (ATON) barge operating on the Great Lakes. The vessel was specifically designed to carry out icebreaking missions, but also carries out missions in Search and Rescue, Environmental Pollution Response, Maritime Law Enforcement and Homeland Security.
USCGC Tupelo WAGL/WLB-303, was a Cactus (A) Class 180-foot buoy tender vessel built by Zenith Dredge Company of Duluth, Minnesota. Her keel was laid 15 August 1942, launched 28 November 1942 and commissioned on 30 August 1943. She was built as a WAGL and redesignated a WLB in 1965.
District 13 is a United States Coast Guard district, based at the Henry M. Jackson Federal Building, in Seattle, Washington. It covers the Pacific Northwest and its Area of Responsibility encompasses four states; Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Montana. District 13 is divided into three Sectors – Puget Sound, Columbia River and North Bend. The District has more than 3,000 active duty and reserve members, civilian employees, and auxiliaries and operates twenty-one cutters, 132 boats and eleven aircraft.
Coast Guard Air Station Detroit is an Air Station of the United States Coast Guard located in Detroit, Michigan. The station was established in 1966 and is located on Selfridge Air National Guard base. Early aircraft consisted of three HH-52A Seaguard helicopters with an area of operations encompassing Lakes Ontario, Erie, St. Clair and southern Lake Huron. During the summer months they assume responsibility for the southern portion of Lake Michigan and operate from an Air Facilities located in Muskegon, Michigan, and Wuakegan, Illinios. Air Station Detroit conducts flights in support of domestic icebreaking operations, Marine Environmental Protection (MEP), and search and rescue missions. Most notably they responded to several rescue missions during Hurricane Katrina of 2005. Today they support 30 Coast Guard shore units, five cutters, as well as federal, state, local, and Canadian government agencies. Detroit aircrews handle over 200 rescues annually. Currently the air station houses five MH-65D Dolphin helicopters.
United States Coast Guard Station San Juan is a United States Coast Guard station established in 1993 and located in La Puntilla sector of historic Old San Juan, Puerto Rico. Is one of two USCG Search and Rescue station in the Caribbean. Duties at Coast Guard Station San Juan also include law enforcement, Federal On Scene Coordinator (FOSC), Area Maritime Security Coordinator (AMSC) and the Electronic Systems Support Detachment San Juan, Puerto Rico. Coast Guard Station San Juan also conducts escorts of cruise ships and some Navy assets entering and departing San Juan Bay.
MV Roger Blough is a ship built in 1972 by American Ship Building Company in Lorain, Ohio. She serves as a lake freighter on the Great Lakes. The ship is owned by Great Lakes Fleet, Inc. and is named for the former chairman of U.S. Steel, Roger Blough.
District 9 is a United States Coast Guard district located at the Anthony J. Celebrezze Federal Building in Cleveland, Ohio. District 9 is responsible for all Coast Guard operations on the five Great Lakes, the Saint Lawrence Seaway, and surrounding states accumulating 6,700 miles of shoreline and 1,500 miles of international shoreline with Canada.
