Colin Peter Metson (born 2 July 1963) is a former English cricketer.

He was described by Dickie Bird as "the best wicketkeeper I have seen in England since Alan Knott". [1]

Metson started his career at Middlesex where he was an understudy to Paul Downton, appearing only when Downton was on international duty from 1981 until 1986. He joined Glamorgan in 1987 to get more game time and soon became their first choice wicketkeeper.

Personal

Metson studied Economic History at Durham University, graduating in 1985. [2] He was appointed managing director of cricket at Glamorgan County Cricket Club in 2010, [3] before he was moved into a Community and Cricket Development role on 14 February 2012. [4] That role was made redundant for financial reasons in 2013, with Metson leaving the club. [5]

Welsh Fire are a franchise 100-ball cricket side based in the city of Cardiff. The team represents the historic counties of Glamorgan, Gloucestershire and Somerset in the newly founded competition called The Hundred, which took place for the first time during the 2021 English and Welsh cricket season. In 2023, Kent County Cricket Club competed in the 2023 County Championship, the 2023 One-Day Cup and the 2023 T20 Blast. The season was the seventh in charge for head coach, and former player, Matthew Walker. Sam Billings retained the club captaincy that he was first awarded in 2018. In June 2023, Billings stepped down as captain in the County Championship for the remainder of the season after a run of poor form in the format, with Jack Leaning taking over the captaincy. Ryan ten Doeschate left his position as batting coach after a single season with Kent, to take up a role with the Kolkata Knight Riders. Former Worcestershire head coach Alex Gidman joined Kent as a replacement for ten Doeschate.

In 2024, Kent County Cricket Club will compete in the 2024 County Championship, the 2024 One-Day Cup and the 2024 T20 Blast. The season was the eighth in charge for head coach, and former player, Matthew Walker. Sam Billings stepped down as club captain, signed a white-ball only contract and retained captaincy of the Twenty20 side. Daniel Bell-Drummond was named as the 36th men's Captain of Kent Cricket. Paul Downton retired as Director of Cricket at the end of the 2023 season, and was replaced by bowling coach Simon Cook. Former Kent bowler Robbie Joseph replaced Cook as bowling coach. Batting coach Alex Gidman left his role to become assistant coach with the England women's team. Gidman was replaced by Toby Radford.
