1999 Pan American Games International sports competition

Canoeing competitions started the day before the games officially begun. Approximately 5,000 athletes from 42 nations participated at the games. The Government of Colombia sponsors numerous individuals and teams nationally and internationally through the Ministry of Culture to enable sportspeople to represent Colombia in competition. The achievements of professional sportspeople are a source of national pride for Colombians.

Association football is the most popular sport in almost all South American countries. There are a wide range of sports played in the continent of South America. Popular sports include baseball, basketball, rugby union, tennis, golf, volleyball, hockey, beach volleyball, motorsports and cricket. Colombia at the Pan American Games Sporting event delegation

Colombia has participated in all editions of the Pan American games since its inception in 1951, except in 1959 and 1963. Hurdler Jaime Aparicio Rodewaldt won the country's first medal at the inaugural edition of the games in Buenos Aires 1951, a gold medal at the 400 m hurdles. The country is ranked seventh in the all-time Pan American games medal table. Cali, the capital of the Colombian department of Valle del Cauca, held the 1971 Pan American Games, and to date, the only time Colombia hosted the games. Its best performance was at the 2019 Edition in Lima, where it earned 28 golden medals, however, their best rank was at Toronto 2015 ranking fifth. The nation has won a total of 136 golden medals, and 568 overall, with weightlifting, roller skating, and cycling as the most successful sports.

2017 World Games

The 2017 World Games, commonly known as Wrocław 2017, was the tenth World Games, a major international multi-sport event, meant for sports, or disciplines or events within a sport, that were not contested in the Olympic Games, held from 20 to 30 July 2017 in Wrocław, Poland. The World Games were organized by the Wrocław Organizing Committee. Wrocław was selected as the host city in January 2012 in Lausanne, over Budapest, Hungary. It was the first time The World Games was organised in Poland.

The World Beach Games is an international multi-sport event organized by the Association of National Olympic Committees (ANOC). The games are held every two years. The first edition was planned to be held in San Diego, United States from 10 to 15 October 2019, but was later relocated to Doha, Qatar after San Diego failed to raise the necessary funding.

Colombia competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Originally scheduled to take place from 24 July to 9 August 2020, the Games were postponed to 23 July to 8 August 2021, because of the COVID-19 pandemic. It was the nation's twentieth appearance at the Summer Olympics, with the exception of Helsinki 1952.
