The architecture of the building is an example of European-inspired modernism, and was featured in the French architectural journal l'architecture d'aujourd'hui. [4] It was built in 1937 as a Works Progress Administration project. [5]
In the 2021-2022 school year, the student body was 49.89 percent White and 45.37 percent African American. [3]
The CHS Marching Band has won 9 MHSAA state championship titles in 2004, 2007, 2008, 2011, 2013, 2014, 2018, 2022, 2023, & 2024 [8] [9]
The CHS Football Team has won 2 MHSAA state championship titles in 1982 and 2021. [10]
The CHS Baseball team has won 1 MHSAA championship in 2011. [10]
Columbia is a city in and the county seat of Marion County, Mississippi, United States. Formed six years before Mississippi was admitted to statehood, Columbia was named for Columbia, South Carolina, from which many of the early settlers had migrated. The population was 5,864 as of the 2020 census, down from 6,582 in 2010.

Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium is an outdoor football stadium in Jackson, Mississippi, United States. Mississippi Veterans Memorial Stadium has been the home stadium of the Jackson State Tigers football team since 1970. Originally known as War Veterans Memorial Stadium, it was later known as Hinds County War Memorial Stadium. It was redesigned and enlarged in 1960 and Ole Miss vs. Arkansas dedicated Mississippi Memorial Stadium in 1961 before a capacity crowd of 46,000. With political support from Ole Miss and Mississippi State and leadership from Ole Miss Athletics Director Warner Alford, Mississippi Memorial Stadium was enlarged to 62,500 in 1981 and on September 26, 1981 Ole Miss and Arkansas again dedicated the facility before 63,522.
