Columbia Park is a public park in the Columbia City neighborhood of Seattle, in the U.S. state of Washington. Annexed to the city in 1907, the park is adjacent to the Columbia Branch of the Seattle Public Library. [3]
Columbia Park was first designated in September 1891 on a plat filed by Frank and Kate Black. [4]
The original park plat was larger than the present-day park. It included land to the north and to the east which today is Rainier Playfield. [5] [6] The original plat was traversed by potential future streets. However, in 1911, all the property owners affected by those potential streets relinquished their claims, allowing for the creation of the park. The waivers, filed and recorded in 1912, helped win a court dispute in the 1960s and 1970s that preserved the park from development. [7]
After Columbia City’s annexation to Seattle in 1907, urban development changed the park’s landscape, including diverting the stream into sewers and filling in the park’s ravine during the 1920s. [7]
In 1912, Frank and Kate Black donated part of the park's land for the construction of the Columbia Branch of the Seattle Public Library System. [7]
Additional improvements on the park were made during a WPA project in 1939, which included the installation of a sprinkler system. Despite legal challenges to develop the park for commercial use in the 1960s and 1970s, [4] community efforts preserved it, maintaining Columbia Park as a recreational space.
Mount Rainier National Park is a national park of the United States located in southeast Pierce County and northeast Lewis County in Washington state. The park was established on March 2, 1899, as the fourth national park in the United States, preserving 236,381 acres including all of Mount Rainier, a 14,410-foot (4,390 m) stratovolcano. The mountain rises abruptly from the surrounding land with elevations in the park ranging from 1,600 feet to over 14,000 feet (490–4,300 m). The highest point in the Cascade Range, Mount Rainier is surrounded by valleys, waterfalls, subalpine meadows, and 91,000 acres of old-growth forest. More than 25 glaciers descend the flanks of the volcano, which is often shrouded in clouds that dump enormous amounts of rain and snow.
Columbia City is a neighborhood in southeastern Seattle, Washington, within the city's Rainier Valley district. It has a landmark-protected historic business district and is one of the few Seattle neighborhoods with a long history of ethnic and income diversity.

Carkeek Park is a 216 acres (87 ha) park in the Broadview neighborhood of Seattle, Washington. The park offers various attractions, including Piper Orchard, Pipers Creek with its tributaries, Venema Creek and Mohlendorph Creek, as well as picnic areas, shelters, and hiking trails.
Denny Blaine Park is a 2 acres (8,100 m2) water-front park in the Denny-Blaine neighborhood of Seattle, Washington. Columbia City station is a light rail station located in Seattle, Washington. The station consists of two at-grade side platforms between South Alaska Street and South Edmunds Street in the median of Martin Luther King Jr. Way South in the Columbia City neighborhood, part of Seattle's Rainier Valley.
Cheasty Boulevard South is a 1.3-mile (2.1 km) route along the eastern edge of Seattle, Washington's Beacon Hill neighborhood. It was declared a City of Seattle landmark on January 15, 2003. Designed in 1903 as part of Seattle's Olmsted parks system, the property was acquired in 1910. Originally named Jefferson Boulevard, it was renamed in 1914 after E.C. George Fletcher Cotterill, born in Oxford, England, was an American civil servant and politician. His public career in Seattle and the state of Washington lasted over 40 years; Cotterill was a Georgist progressive. He was an advocate of woman suffrage, prohibition, land value tax, municipalisation of port facilities and utilities, and the development of public parks.
Mount Rainier, also known as Tahoma, is a large active stratovolcano in the Cascade Range of the Pacific Northwest in the United States. The mountain is located in Mount Rainier National Park about 59 miles (95 km) south-southeast of Seattle. With an officially recognized summit elevation of 14,410 ft (4,392 m) at the Columbia Crest, it is the highest mountain in the U.S. state of Washington, the most topographically prominent mountain in the contiguous United States, and the tallest in the Cascade Volcanic Arc.
The Rainier Club is a private club in Seattle, Washington; it has been referred to as "Seattle's preeminent private club." Its clubhouse building, completed in 1904, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It was founded in 1888 in what was then the Washington Territory. As of 2008, the club has 1,300 members.
Donnie Chin International Children's Park, formerly known as the International District Children's Park or International Children's Park, is a 0.2-acre (810 m2) public park for children in the Chinatown–International District (CID) neighborhood of downtown Seattle, Washington, United States. Named after community leader Donnie Chin, the park is at the northeast corner of the intersection of South Lane Street and 7th Avenue South, near the eastern edge of the CID. It was built in 1981, renovated in 2012, and features a bronze dragon play sculpture by Gerard Tsutakawa.
Mount Baker Park is a 21.7-acre (8.8 ha) urban park in Seattle, Washington, United States. It is located along a ravine in the Mount Baker neighborhood in the Rainier Valley, stretching from South McClellan Street in the south to Lake Washington Boulevard at its north end. The park's north end is adjacent to Mount Baker Beach on Lake Washington and Colman Park. The south end connects to Mount Baker Boulevard, a scenic street that continues southwest to Franklin High School and the Mount Baker light rail station.
