Action Against Hunger is a global humanitarian organization which originated in France and is committed to ending world hunger. The organization helps malnourished children and provides communities with access to safe water and sustainable solutions to hunger.
Senegal,officially the Republic of Senegal,is a country in West Africa,on the Atlantic Ocean coastline. Senegal is bordered by Mauritania to the north,Mali to the east,Guinea to the southeast and Guinea-Bissau to the southwest. Senegal nearly surrounds the Gambia,a country occupying a narrow sliver of land along the banks of the Gambia River,which separates Senegal's southern region of Casamance from the rest of the country. Donald Ainslie Henderson was an American medical doctor,educator,and epidemiologist who directed a 10-year international effort (1967–1977) that eradicated smallpox throughout the world and launched international childhood vaccination programs. From 1977 to 1990,he was Dean of the Johns Hopkins School of Public Health. Later,he played a leading role in instigating national programs for public health preparedness and response following biological attacks and national disasters. At the time of his death,he was Professor and Dean Emeritus of the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health,and Professor of Medicine and Public Health at the University of Pittsburgh,as well as Distinguished Scholar at the UPMC Center for Health Security.
Cheikh Anta Diop University,also known as the Cheikh Anta Diop University of Dakar,is a university in Dakar,Senegal. It is named after the Senegalese physicist,historian and anthropologist Cheikh Anta Diop and has an enrollment of over 60,000.
Molly Melching is the founder and Creative Director of the Tostan Community Empowerment Program (CEP). Tostan is a non-governmental organization (NGO) headquartered in Dakar,Senegal whose mission is to empower African communities to bring about sustainable development and positive social transformation based on respect for human rights. Her website,Tostan.org,states "Tostan implements a holistic,three-year empowering education program in African national languages that has engaged over 3,500 rural communities in eight African countries on themes of democracy,human rights,health,literacy,and project management skills". These themes include the abandonment of female genital cutting,the abolishment of child/forced marriage,and female empowerment in leadership positions such as leadership positions in countries across West and East Africa.
Awa Marie Coll-Seck is as Senegalese infectious diseases specialist and politician who served as Minister of Health of Senegal from 2001 to 2003 and again from 2012 to 2017. She also served as former Executive Director of the Roll Back Malaria Partnership and is on the board of directors of several notable global health organizations. She is an agenda contributor of the World Economic Forum.

Teguest Guerma is an Ethiopian medical doctor specializing in public health and HIV/AIDS. Guerma is appointed by the African Medical and Research Foundation Board of Directors as Director General in June 2010. She has been the Associate Director of the HIV/AIDS Department of the World Health Organization between 2004–2010. She has started her career in HIV/AIDS in Burundi and has since extensively worked in Africa and South East Asia,including as country representative for the World Health Organization and Regional Advisor of HIV/AIDS for the Africa Regional Office of the WHO. She also represented the Africa Region of the World Health Organization at the United Nations headquarters in New York City from 2001–2004 and promoted African health issues,notably HIV/AIDS,tuberculosis and malaria,that has significantly contributed to their inclusion into resolution of the general assembly and the Security Council of the UN. She has been very instrumental in the establishment and initiation of a WHO and UNAIDS 3 by 5 Initiative. The 3 by 5 Initiative was a global target of putting 3 million people living with HIV on life saving antiretroviral treatment by end of 2005,which heralded a breakthrough to the access of HIV treatment in resource limited countries. She did her undergraduate degree in Doctor of Medicine at the University of Reims Champagne-Ardenne in France and post graduate public health trainings at the University of Dakar in Senegal and Johns Hopkins University in the United States.

Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus is an Ethiopian public health official,researcher,and the Director-General of the World Health Organization since 2017. Tedros is the first African to become WHO Director-General,receiving an endorsement for the role by the African Union. He played a role in the response to the Ebola virus epidemic,the COVID-19 pandemic,and the 2022–2023 mpox outbreak.
Uche Veronica Amazigo is a professor of Medical Parasitology and public health specialist. She is a fellow of the Nigerian Academy of Science who was elected into the Academy's Fellowship at its Annual General Meeting held in January 2015. In 2012,she won the Prince Mahidol Award for outstanding contributions to public health. She is best known for her research on onchocerciasis and her consequent contributions to the World Health Organization (WHO).

The Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention is a public health agency of the African Union to support the public health initiatives of member states and strengthen the capacity of their health institutions to deal with disease threats. The Africa CDC ideas was proposed by the government of Ethiopia in 2013 during a TB/HIV special summit in Abuja,Nigeria. From 2013 to 2016,the modalities and statue of Africa CDC were developed and the specialized agency was officially launched in January 2017.
Souleymane Mboup is a Senegalese microbiologist,medical researcher,and colonel in the Armed Forces of Senegal. In 1985,he was a member of the first team to identify HIV-2,a form of HIV that is typically found in West Africa and is less transmissible than the more common HIV-1. Mboup has contributed to the improvement of Senegal's research infrastructure throughout his career. Among his published works,he is known for editing the 1994 reference book AIDS in Africa. Mboup is currently the President of L'Institut de Recherche en Santé,de Surveillance Épidémiologique et de Formations (IRESSEF) in Diamniadio,Senegal.
