Committee on Medium-term Path on Financial Inclusion is an experts committee formed by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on 15 July 2015 to create a five-year plan for financial inclusion in India. It is headed by Deepak Mohanty, executive director of RBI. It is expected to submit its report within four months. [1]

Objective

The objective of the committee is to examine the existing policy regarding financial inclusion and the form a five-year action plan. [3] [4] The plan will have several components with regard to payments, deposits, credit, social security transfers, pension and insurance. Each component will be made monitor-able with milestones to track the progress of the plan. [4]

Between 2003 and 2006 he was Chief Economist and director of research at the International Monetary Fund. From September 2013 through September 2016 he was the 23rd Governor of the Reserve Bank of India.

The Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management Act, 2003 (FRBMA) is an Act of the Parliament of India to institutionalize financial discipline, reduce India's fiscal deficit, improve macroeconomic management and the overall management of the public funds by moving towards a balanced budget and strengthen fiscal prudence. The main purpose was to eliminate revenue deficit of the country and bring down the fiscal deficit to a manageable 3% of the GDP by March 2008. However, due to the 2007 international financial crisis, the deadlines for the implementation of the targets in the act was initially postponed and subsequently suspended in 2009. In 2011, given the process of ongoing recovery, Economic Advisory Council publicly advised the Government of India to reconsider reinstating the provisions of the FRBMA. N. K. Singh is currently the Chairman of the review committee for Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management Act, 2003, under the Ministry of Finance (India), Government of India.

Deepak Mohanty is an economist at India's central bank, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). He holds the post of Executive Director at the head office of RBI in Mumbai. The areas supervised by him are monetary policy, economic research, and statistics. He has also worked in various positions in economic research and monetary policy departments of the RBI.

Kamalesh Chandra Chakrabarty or K. C. Chakrabarty, was an Indian banker who served as one of the four Deputy Governors of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) from 15 June 2009 to 25 April 2014, resigning three months ahead of the completion of his term. He was noted for his contributions to advancing financial inclusion and financial literacy during his time at the central bank.

Deepali Pant Joshi is a former executive director of the Reserve Bank of India. She is a development economist and a writer on economic subjects. Her professional responsibilities have included the Department of Currency Management, Legal Department and Premises Department. She was the First Appellate authority under the Right to Information Act, as well as the RBI nominee on the governing council of the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) and director on the board of Bharatiya Reserve Bank Note Mudran Private Limited (BRBNMPL).

Committee on Comprehensive Financial Services for Small Businesses and Low Income Households was an expert committee formed by Raghuram Rajan on 23 September 2013, after he was appointed as the governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). It was headed by Nachiket Mor. The objective of the panel was to study various aspects of financial inclusion in India. The panel submitted its final report on 7 January 2014.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Payments bank</span> New model of banks initiative by Reserve Bank of India

Payments banks are new model of banks, conceptualised by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI), which cannot issue credit. These banks can accept a restricted deposit, which is currently limited to ₹200,000 per customer and may be increased further. These banks cannot issue loans and credit cards. Both current account and savings accounts can be operated by such banks. Payments banks can issue ATM cards or debit cards and provide online or mobile banking. Bharti Airtel set up India's first payments bank, Airtel Payments Bank.

SFB are a type of niche banks in India. Banks with a small finance bank (SFB) license can provide basic banking service of acceptance of deposits and lending. The aim behind these is to provide financial inclusion to sections of the economy not being served by other banks, such as small business units, small and marginal farmers, micro and small industries and unorganised sector entities.

N. S. Vishwanathan was the deputy governor of Reserve Bank of India. He was appointed on 28 June 2016, by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet of Government of India. He replaced H. R. Khan, whose term ended on 4 July 2016.

Airtel Payments Bank is an Indian payments bank with its headquarters in New Delhi. The company is a subsidiary of Bharti Airtel. On 5 January 2022, it was granted the scheduled bank status by Reserve Bank of India under second schedule of RBI Act, 1934.

The Monetary Policy Committee is responsible for fixing the benchmark interest rate in India. The meetings of the Monetary Policy Committee are held at least four times a year and it publishes its decisions after each such meeting.

Shaktikanta Das is serving as the current & 25th governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). He was earlier a member of the Fifteenth Finance Commission and India's Sherpa to the G20. Das is a retired 1980 batch Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officer of Tamil Nadu cadre.

Michael Debabrata Patra is an Indian economist and central banker. A career Reserve Bank of India officer, he is currently serving as one its four deputy governors.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Digital rupee</span> Official currency of India

The Digital Rupee (e₹) or eINR or E-Rupee is a tokenised digital version of the Indian Rupee, to be issued by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) as a central bank digital currency (CBDC). The Digital Rupee was proposed in January 2017 and will be launched in the 2022–23 financial year. Digital Rupee is using blockchain distributed-ledger technology.
