CommoNasm is a mashup album produced and mixed by Miami-based producer and sound engineer TenDJiz. It was created by blending the acapellas of Common and Nas with instrumentals composed from Soviet soul and jazz samples. The album was released on July 10, 2012.
The project has received positive reviews from critics. The Miami New Times named TenDJiz "the mastermind behind an awesome mixtape series that mashes Soviet jazz instrumentals with American hip-hop.". [1] Soulbounce.com (winner of the 2010 Soul Train Awards) claims that "TenDJiz's production, mixing and scratching is near flawless." [2] Respect magazine described CommoNasm as "an incredibly ambitious and awing project." [3] The album was called "flawless mashup" by HipHopDX.com [4] and described as "amazing" by 2dopeboyz.com. [5] Common tweeted about CommoNasm [6] and called it "Fresh". [7] Fashion Nerrd Magazine claims that the Soulviet Trilogy is "a bridging of the gap between the two formerly antagonistic superpower nations". Nasir bin Olu Dara Jones, better known by his stage name Nas, is an American rapper. Rooted in East Coast hip hop, he is regarded as one of the greatest rappers of all time. The son of jazz musician Olu Dara, Jones began his musical career in 1989 as he adopted the moniker of "Nasty Nas" and recorded demos for Large Professor. He was later featured on the 1991 song "Live at the Barbeque" by Main Source.

Illmatic is the debut studio album by American rapper Nas. It was released on April 19, 1994, by Columbia Records. After signing with the label with the help of MC Serch, Nas recorded the album in 1992 and 1993 at Chung King Studios, D&D Recording, Battery Studios, and Unique Recording Studios in New York City. The album's production was handled by DJ Premier, Large Professor, Pete Rock, Q-Tip, L.E.S., and Nas himself.
