Bururi Province is one of the eighteen provinces of Burundi. It was formerly Burundi's largest province until the communes of Burambi, Buyengero and Rumonge were transferred to the province of Rumonge when it was created in 2015.
Gitega, formerly Kitega, is the political capital of Burundi. Located in the centre of the country, in the Burundian central plateau roughly 62 kilometres (39 mi) east of Bujumbura, the largest city and former political capital, Gitega is also the second largest city and former royal capital of the Kingdom of Burundi until its abolition in 1966. In late December 2018, Burundian president Pierre Nkurunziza announced that he would follow on a 2007 promise to return Gitega its former political capital status, with Bujumbura remaining as economic capital and centre of commerce. A vote in the Parliament of Burundi made the change official on 16 January 2019, with all branches of government expected to move in over three years.
Kirundo Province is one of the eighteen provinces of Burundi, in north of the country bordering Rwanda. The economy is mostly based on agriculture, with a dispersed population and few sizable communities. Before 1970 large parts of the province were forested. Migrants from the south then cleared much of the vegetation to create agricultural land, and Kirundo became the breadbasket of Burundi. The civil war from 1993 to 2005 caused agricultural output to drop by more than half. Since then, lack of farm inputs, poor infrastructure and shortages of water have caused widespread poverty.

The Ruvubu River is a river in central Africa whose waters gather from the most distant, southern portion of the Nile basin. With a total length of 416 km (258 mi) and has a drainage basin of 14,000 km2 (5,400 sq mi). It rises in the north of Burundi, near the town of Kayanza and then does a southward arc through Burundi, being joined by the Ruvyironza River near Gitega. From there it runs northeast, through the Ruvubu National Park, up to the Tanzanian border. After a stretch along the border, the Ruvubu crosses properly into Tanzania, before joining the Nyabarongo River on the Tanzania–Rwanda border near Rusumo Falls, to form the Kagera River.
Ngozi is a town located in northern Burundi. It is the largest urban center in the Ngozi Province and the location of the provincial headquarters.
The Ruvyironza River is a river in Burundi, the main tributary of the Ruvubu River. Its headwaters are the most remote source of the Nile when measured by river length from the Nile's mouth.
The commune of Cendajuru is a commune of Cankuzo Province in north-eastern Burundi.
The commune Itaba is one of 11 municipalities in the province of Gitega, Burundi. It is surrounded in the north by the town of Gitega, to the south by Rutana Province, to the west by the municipalities Bukirasazi and Makebuko, and to the east also by Rutana Province, as well as Ruyigi Province. It covers an area of 170 square kilometres (66 sq mi), equal tp 8.6% of the entire province of Gitega and 0.6% of the whole country.

According to the 2008 census, Gihogazi had a total population of 67,627, of which 48% was male, and a population density of 351 people per km2. The total area of the commune amounts to 192.4 km2 (74 sq mi).
