Connemara market is situated at Palayam junction in Thiruvananthapuram city, in the state of Kerala, India. The recently renovated Market has merged with the Saphalyam Complex adjacent to it. The Palayam Market was established during 1857, when Sri Uthradom Thirunal was the Maharja of Travancore mainly to supply day to day essential commodities to the Army.

Kerala is a state on the southwestern, Malabar Coast of India. It was formed on 1 November 1956, following passage of the States Reorganisation Act, by combining Malayalam-speaking regions. Spread over 38,863 km2 (15,005 sq mi), Kerala is the twenty second largest Indian state by area. It is bordered by Karnataka to the north and northeast, Tamil Nadu to the east and south, and the Lakshadweep Sea and Arabian Sea to the west. With 33,387,677 inhabitants as per the 2011 Census, Kerala is the thirteenth-largest Indian state by population. It is divided into 14 districts with the capital being Thiruvananthapuram. Malayalam is the most widely spoken language and is also the official language of the state.

The Arched Gate of the Market was built subsequently and was inaugurated by Sir Robert Bourke, 1st Baron Connemara, Governor of Madras Presidency , when he visited Thiruvananthapuram during 1888. In his honour, the market was then named as “Connemara Market”.

Tourism in Thiruvananthapuram (Trivandrum) district in the Indian state of Kerala promotes the area's hill stations, back waters, beaches, lagoons, and wildlife sanctuaries. St. Josephs Cathedral, Trivandrum Church in Thiruvananthapuram, India

St. Joseph's Metropolitan Cathedral, also known as Palayam Palli is the Roman Catholic Latin Rite cathedral of the Archdiocese of Trivandrum. The first church was built here in 1873. The church was intended in the manner of a cross in 1912. The final stage of extension, including the Gothic style facade and the bell-tower was completed in 1927. The three bells were brought from Belgium and were named Joseph, Xavier, and Aloysius in honour of St. Joseph, the Patron of the Church, St. Francis Xavier, the Apostle of India and Bishop Aloysius Maria Benziger the pioneer Missionary-Bishop of Quilon respectively. Upon the bifurcation of the Diocese of Quilon, the new diocese of Trivandrum was formed on 1 July 1937, and St. Joseph’s Church became the cathedral of the newly formed diocese. When the diocese was raised to a metropolitan archdioese in 2004, the cathedral became a metropolitan cathedral. The cathedral has a statue of its patron St. Joseph with the child Jesus in the middle of the facade and a statue of Jesus with hands raised atop the tower. The church which is white in colour was painted red from 1927 to 2010. It was renovated during the period 2008 to 2010.

Karikkakom Devi Temple

Karikkakom Sree Chamundi Devi Temple or Karikkakom Devi Temple is a Hindu temple dedicated to Goddess Chamundi located in Thiruvananthapuram, India. This ancient temple, more than 600 years old, is situated at Karikkakom, around 7 km north of Sree Padmanabhaswamy Temple in Thiruvananthapuram. The temple enshrines a Panchaloha idol of the goddess Karikkakathamma – an incarnation of Chamundi. The rare fact about this temple is that Chamundi Devi is worshiped here in three different forms: Maha Chamundi, Raktha Chamundi, and Bala Chamundi. During the period of King's rule this temple was the venue for imparting justice and truth. Truth and justice were tested on oath and solemnization and the punishmentsf meted out accordingly.

St Ignatius Church, Thiruvananthapuram Church

St Ignatius Church, Thiruvananthapuram is a Catholic church located in the Trivandrum, Kerala, India. The church is the center of all religious and social activities. The present church was built in 1989. The foundation stone was blessed by Pope John Paul II during his visit to India in 1986. The church is the replica of St.Joseph's Cathedral, Palayam. A grotto of Mary is also built in front of the church and the statue of Mary in the grotto was brought from Lourde by a native of Puthenthope. A parochial house, which shows the typical architecture of Kerala is also situated nearby the church. St.Ignatius Parish community hall is another building situated along with the church in the junction of Puthenthope.
