Headquartered in San Bruno, California, United States, it is the second-most visited website in the world, after Google Search. In January 2024, YouTube had more than 2.7 billion monthly active users, who collectively watched more than one billion hours of videos every day. As of May 2019, videos were being uploaded to the platform at a rate of more than 500 hours of content per minute, and as of 2021, there were approximately 14 billion videos in total.

Its premiere debuted August 1, 2018 on Dawson's YouTube channel. The series is presented by Dawson and stars himself and makeup entrepreneur and Internet personality Jeffree Star. Appearances by James Charles, Ryland Adams and Garrett Watts are also featured, with Dawson's film and editing collaborator Andrew Siwicki as camera operator for the duration of the series. The documentary focuses on the life of Jeffree Star, particularly his beginnings as a musician before leaving the industry to focus on his YouTube career and makeup brand.

The series was promoted through Dawson's Twitter and is stylistically similar to Dawson's previous web series, The Secret World of Jeffree Star. It premiered on September 25, 2018, and concluded after eight episodes on October 18, 2018.

Gariépy hosted the YouTube channel The Public Space before launching his current channel JFG Tonight where he calls for the creation of a white ethnostate, promotes antisemitic messages, and advocates for the genetic superiority of white people. The Anti-Defamation League lists The Public Space among "White Supremacist Channels". Gariépy has been described as a "standard bearer of the alt-right."

The series follows the life of Jeffree Star, the founder and CEO of Jeffree Star Cosmetics. The series also follows Dawson and Star as they plan and design a new makeup and merchandise collection called The Conspiracy Collection. The series ran for seven episodes, premiering on October 1, 2019, and ending on November 22; an extra episode that showed bloopers and deleted scenes was released on January 21, 2020. The series, excluding the trailer, has garnered over 130 million combined views.
