The Copa ASOBAL is an annual handball cup competition for Liga ASOBAL teams. It was first played for in 1990 and is contested by the top four teams at the end of the first half of the Liga ASOBAL season.

Talant Mushanbetovich Dujshebaev is a former handball player, and current coach, who serves as the head coach for Vive Kielce. Dujshebaev is considered by many to be one of the greatest handball coaches of his generation. He successively played for 4 national teams in his playing career: First for the Soviet Union, then the Unified Team, then Russia and finally Spain. His most usual demarcation as a player was centre backcourt. After initially having success with BM Ciudad Real as a coach, he has been coaching Kielce for nearly a decade now.

The Supercopa ASOBAL or the Supercopa de España de Balonmano was an annual cup competition for Spanish handball teams. It was organised by the Liga ASOBAL. It was first played for in 1985 and was disputed between the Liga ASOBAL champions and the winners of the Copa del Rey de Balonmano. It was played as a single match, at a neutral venue and in different cities every year. In 2022 it was replaced by Supercopa Ibérica.

Liga ASOBAL 1990–91 was the first season of Liga ASOBAL. ASOBAL's governing body was established on May 18, 1990. The league was played in a two phases. In the first phase, a total of 16 teams were separate in two groups of eight teams. The first five of every groups passed to the second phase for the title. The last three passed to the second phase for the permanence in Liga ASOBAL.

On the contrary, teams in 12th & 13th position had to play the permanence playoff, and teams in 14th & 15th position had to play the relegation playoff.
