The Corps of Firefighters of Catalonia (in Catalan: Cos de Bombers de la Generalitat de Catalunya) is the fire department of Catalonia, Spain. The body was established on June 27, 1980, shortly after the second restoration of the Government of Catalonia.^[1] It has responsibility managing all tasks related to firefighting, fire prevention, civil protection, maritime rescue, and traffic accidents.

The corps is part of the Ministry of the Interior of Catalonia, led by Joan Ignasi Elena, and have a hierarchical chain of command.^[6] The body has 149 stations, which are distributed in 7 emergency regions: Center, Girona, Lleida, Metropolitan North, Metropolitan South, Tarragona and Terres de l'Ebre.^[7]

In recognition of the service and the work carried out, the body was awarded the Gold Medal of the Generalitat of Catalonia on 11 September 2009.^[8]

Tasks

According to the Law 9/2010, the Firefighters of Catalonia have the following tasks:^[9]

Fire extinguishing while trying to minimise damage, both personal and material.
Develop prevention activities to avoid fires and accidents.
Study and investigate techniques, facilities and systems to increase fire protection.
Participate in civil protection operations.
Perform rescue tasks in difficult access rivers and mountains.
Investigate and analyse the accidents under their jurisdiction.
Provide information and formative activities for the general public.
Act in service of public interest.
Other actions stipulated in the current legislation documents.

Joan Saura i Laporta is a Green ICV Spanish politician in Catalonia. He was born in Barcelona, Catalonia, in 1950. He studied at the Escola d'Enginyeria Tècnica, where he specialized in Industrial Chemistry. In the beginning, he was devoted to the trade union and the neighbourhood: he enrolled into the Workers' Commissions (CCOO) in 1973, while he was working for the electrics company FECSA, and cofounded the La Florida Neighbourhood Association, in L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, 1974.

Joan Amades i Gelats, was a Catalan ethnologist and folklorist. An autodidact, he worked at the historical archive of the city of Barcelona and at the Museum of Industry and Popular Arts of the same city. From 1956 onwards, he collaborated with UNESCO. He was also an important promoter of Esperanto and founded the Federació Esperantista Catalana. Perhaps the most important book in his large bibliography is Costumari Català, the main work for the study of Catalan popular culture.

Catalan Solidarity for Independence is an electoral coalition in Catalonia, founded in the summer of 2010 as an outcome of the grassroots social movement that initiated and organized the Catalan independence referendums of 2009 and 2010. It was organized as a common political platform for Catalan independentism, dissatisfied with what they considered a pragmatist and conformist policy of other Catalan parties towards the issue of independence.

The gold metal of the Generalitat of Catalonia is the highest award given by the Generalitat of Catalonia to those people or institutions who have excelled with their work in the political, social, economic, cultural or scientific, and raised awareness of Catalan cultural heritage. Joan Triadu was a Catalan literary critic, academic and writer. A cultural and resistant anti-Francoist activist, he participated in many significant Catalan cultural projects of the 20th century such as the Serra d'Or magazine, the magazine Ariel, the newspaper Today or Òmnium Cultural. He was the pioneer in the post-war teaching of Catalan courses. He was the general director of the Cultural Institution of the CIC.

The Puigdemont Government was the regional government of Catalonia led by President Carles Puigdemont between 2016 and 2017. It was formed in January 2016 after the resignation of Puigdemont's predecessor Artur Mas and it ended in October 2017 with the imposition of direct rule following the Catalan declaration of independence.

Roger Torrent i Ramió is a Spanish politician and urban planner from Catalonia. A former mayor of the municipality of Sarrià de Ter in north-eastern Spain, Torrent was President of the Parliament of Catalonia from January 2018 until March 2021. The Catalan Space Agency is a project approved by the Executive Council of the Generalitat de Catalunya on October 27, 2020, and which aims to launch two nanosatellites in the first half of the year 2021. The project, with an initial duration of two years until 2023, envisages the launch of a constellation of up to six satellites with a public investment of 21 million dollars over four years with part of the co-financing from the European Regional Development Fund. The project would be led by the Ministry of Digital Policies, the Department of Business, and the Department of Territory, and would be part of the plan called "NewSpace Strategy of Catalonia" or "Estratègia NewSpace de Catalunya".
