Cracovia Club is a Polish Australian community organisation based in Bennett Springs, Western Australia.

History

The club was formed in 1950 at St Brigid's Parish Hall in Northbridge by members of the Perth Polish Australian community. The club was named Polish Sport Club Cracovia after the city of Kraków in Poland. It is a name shared by Polish football team Cracovia. The club was initially based in Perth before moving to premises in Barlee Street, Highgate in 1972. The club was based in Highgate until 1990 when it moved to its current location in Bennett Springs (then Beechboro). [1] [2] [3]

Football

Association football played an important early part in the club's history. Much of the club's efforts were put into ensuring success. However through the years the sporting side of the club has become less prominent with more of a focus on community activities. [2]

The club now has a team playing in the Football West Social Division 1. [4]

Other sports

A number of sports have been played competitively by the Cracovia Club including netball, tennis and table tennis. [3]

Pogoń Lwów Football club

LKS Pogoń Lwów is a former Polish professional sports club which was located in Lwów, Lwów Voivodeship, and existed from 1904 until the outbreak of World War II in 1939. It was the second oldest Polish football club behind other teams from Lwów – Czarni and Lechia. With numerous departments, among them football, ice hockey and track and field, Pogoń was a major force of Polish sports in the interbellum period; its football team was never relegated from the elite Polish Football League. The club ceased to exist in September 1939, following German and Soviet aggression on Poland. On 2 July 1939, Pogoń played last pre-war official home game, drawing 1–1 with AKS Chorzów. The last pre-war game of the Pogoń's football team took place in Warsaw on 20 August 1939. Lwów's side lost 1–2 to Polonia Warsaw, scorer of the last goal was the 20-year-old forward Piotr Dreher. A club under the same name wishing to continue its traditions was formed in 2009.
