Craig Allen Cardon (born December 30, 1948) has been a general authority of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (LDS Church) since 2006.
In The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, a general authority is a member of the highest levels of leadership in the church who has administrative and ecclesiastical authority over the church. A general authority's jurisdiction is church-wide, in contrast to the responsibilities of a local authority or an area authority, which relate to a particular area, unit, or department of the church. As a group, the general authorities are often referred to as "the Brethren". As of October 2017, there are 109 general authorities.
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, often informally known as the LDS Church or Mormon Church, is a nontrinitarian, Christian restorationist church that is considered by its members to be the restoration of the original church founded by Jesus Christ. The church is headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah in the United States, and has established congregations and built temples worldwide. According to the church, it has over 16 million members and 67,000 full-time volunteer missionaries. In 2012, the National Council of Churches ranked the church as the fourth-largest Christian denomination in the United States, with over 6.5 million members reported by the church, as of January 2018. It is the largest denomination in the Latter Day Saint movement founded by Joseph Smith during the period of religious revival known as the Second Great Awakening.
Cardon was born in Mesa, Arizona. He studied accounting and received a bachelor's degree at Arizona State University. He later received a master’s degree in public administration from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University. During his professional career he was self-employed with various business interests.
Mesa is a city in Maricopa County, in the U.S. state of Arizona. It is a suburb located about 20 miles (32 km) east of Phoenix in the East Valley section of the Phoenix Metropolitan Area. It is bordered by Tempe on the west, the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community on the north, Chandler and Gilbert on the south along with Queen Creek, and Apache Junction on the east.

On April 1, 2006, Cardon was called as a member of the LDS Church's Second Quorum of the Seventy. From 2006 to 2011, he served first as a counselor and then as president of the church's Africa West Area. On March 31, 2012, he was transferred to the First Quorum of the Seventy. In 2011, he was assigned as an Assistant Executive Director in the Priesthood Department and also assists in the supervision of two of the church's North American areas.
From 2012 to 2015, Cardon served as editor of the church's magazines ( Liahona , Ensign , New Era , and The Friend ). In 2015, Joseph W. Sitati succeeded him as editor, with Cardon becoming an adviser to the magazines, a role Sitati had been serving in. On October 6, 2018, Cardon was released and designated an emeritus general authority. [1]
Liahona is the official international magazine of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. It is named after the word liahona from the Book of Mormon. The Liahona is published in 51 different languages from one to twelve times per year, depending on the language. The magazine consists of articles for youth, teens, and adults, all of which are published concurrently in the church's English-language Ensign, New Era, and Friend magazines. The magazine began publication in 1977. The Liahona publishes 415,000 magazines per month in 46 languages.
The Ensign of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, commonly shortened to Ensign, is an official periodical of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. The magazine was first issued in January 1971, along with the correlated New Era and the Friend. Each of these magazines replaced the older church publications Improvement Era, Relief Society Magazine, The Instructor, and the Millennial Star. Unlike some of its predecessors, the Ensign contains no advertisements.
New Era is an official magazine of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. First published in January 1971 along with the Ensign and the Friend, the New Era's intended audience has always been the church's youth. The magazine replaced the similarly themed The Improvement Era, a periodical published from 1897 to 1970.
Cardon's previous church service includes a full-time mission in the Italian Mission, president of the Italy Rome Mission (1983–86), stake president, bishop, high councilor, counselor in a stake presidency and bishopric, elders quorum president, institute instructor, and Sunday School gospel doctrine teacher.

A mission of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is a geographical administrative area to which church missionaries are assigned. Almost all areas of the world are within the boundaries of an LDS Church mission, whether or not Mormon missionaries live or proselytize in the area. As of July 2018, there were 407 missions of the LDS Church. On January 2, 2019, the LDS Church announced changes that will close 12 missions through boundary realignments and open up 4 new ones, effective July 1, 2019. When these changes take place, there will be 399 missions of the church.
Mission president is a priesthood leadership position in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. A mission president presides over a mission and the missionaries serving in the mission. Depending on the particular mission, a mission president may also be the presiding priesthood leader of some or all Latter-day Saints within the geographic boundaries of the mission. Mission presidents are ordained high priests of the church.
Cardon is married to Deborah Louise Dana and they have eight children.
