New Zealand rugby career
Green started his provincial career in the mid-field for Mid-Canterbury. He then moved to Christchurch and played for Canterbury, where he won the National Provincial Championship in 1983 and was one of the key players during Canterbury's 1982-1985 Ranfurly Shield era. While at Canterbury he was asked by the coach, Alex Wyllie to move from the mid-field to the wing as Canterbury also had Warwick Taylor and Victor Simpson in the squad. Although not as fast as some top-level wingers, his skills and try-scoring ability saw him succeed at provincial level as well as leading to him gaining selection for the All Blacks.
He played 39 times (including 20 test matches) as an All Black from 1983 until 1987, with the highlight of his career being winning the inaugural 1987 Rugby World Cup. He scored six tries in the 1987 world cup including 4 tries against Fiji. He then "walked away" from New Zealand rugby at 26 because of the low compensation despite the time and commitment required. Green scored 110 tries in his 160 first class games for New Zealand provincial or national teams. He was selected as one of the “Five players of the year” for the 1985 season in the Rugby Almanack of New Zealand.
Coaching career
Green coached schoolboy rugby at Brisbane Boys' College in Brisbane, Australia.
Between 2002 and 2007 he went back to Italy, to coach his former player days team Benetton Treviso. [2] With the Italian club he had a hugely successful era; achieving the national title in 2003, 2004, 2006 and 2007, and the Coppa Italia in 2005.
Green also coached the Italian under 20 team [3]

Treviso have competed in the United Rugby Championship since 2010, and have previously competed in the Italian domestic championship.
Michael Patrick Thomas Lynagh, is an Australian former rugby union player who played 66 Tests at fly-half and six Tests at inside centre between 1984 and 1995. Lynagh was capped 72 times for Australia, and was captain from 1993 to 1995.
Andrew Vilk is the responsabile tecnico ‘head coach’ of rugby 7s national side for Italy. A rugby union player who played at centre for Calvisano. He played in the forwards for England Sevens and captained the side in Hong Kong. He has played for Sale Sharks and Northampton saints. He is a strong and powerful runner.
Sir Wayne Ross Smith is a New Zealand rugby union coach and former player. He has won three Rugby World Cups; he was an assistant coach with New Zealand's men's team, the All Blacks, who won the 2011 and 2015 World Cups, and as head coach of the New Zealand women's team, the Black Ferns, won the 2021 World Cup, held in 2022.
Mark Garry 'Hammer' Hammett is a New Zealand rugby union coach and former player. Having represented Canterbury provincially 76 times, and the Crusaders 81 times and the All Blacks 30 times – including 29 Test matches, Hammett later went on to coach both Canterbury and Crusaders as a forwards/assistant coach. He is currently on the assistant coach of the Highlanders in Super Rugby and the Tasman Makos in the Mitre 10 Cup.
Tavake Lecanus Liukanasi Manu is a retired New Zealand rugby union player. He played in the number 8 and occasionally flanker position for Mitre 10 Cup side, Otago. Manu also represented Tonga at international level.
Joe Maddock is a retired rugby union winger/fullback who last played for Saracens F.C. in the Aviva Premiership. He was appointed as attack coach for Bath Rugby on 1 March 2022.
