The women's 30 kilometre freestyle cross-country skiing competition at the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano, Japan, was held on 20 February at Snow Harp. [1]

Each skier started at half a minute intervals, skiing the entire 30 kilometre course. The defending Olympic champion was the Italian Manuela Di Centa, who won in Lillehammer, then in classical technique.

The men both competed in the 15 and 30 km races; Kirsten Carlsen competed in the 5 km and 10 km races. She had the best performance of any of them with her 32nd-place finish in the 10 km event.
