History

Football in Crowle has been played by several different clubs since the turn of the 20th century, mainly Crowle Brickworks, the Sun Engineers side, Crowle Town and Axholme Wanderers, all of which competed in the Scunthorpe League.

In 1967, the clubs reduced down to one main Saturday side, resulting in the formation of Crowle United. United had great success, with their most notable achievement coming in the 1970–71 season when they completed a treble, being crowned champions of the Scunthorpe League, as well as winning the Scunthorpe Challenge Cup and the Lincolnshire FA County Junior Cup. In 1973, United joined the Lincolnshire League and played in the league for 17 seasons, until 1989.

In 1996, Crowle United folded, and it looked as if Crowle would no longer have a Saturday football team until an emergency meeting took place and a new club was formed under the name Crowle United Junior Colts. In the 1997-98 season, the newly formed club joined the Scunthorpe League and in the following season the club took on their final, and current, name Crowle Colts. With the exception of 3 seasons in the Gainsborough and District League in the early 2000s the club played in the Scunthorpe League until 2018.

The Colts entered the Central Midlands Football League in 2018 after being crowned champions of the Scunthorpe League in the 2017–18 season. [1] They secured successive promotions the following season, missing out on the title on goal difference. After three seasons in the top division, the club returned to the Lincolnshire League at the start of the 2022–23 season. That season saw the Colts match Crowle United’s best-ever finish in the Lincolnshire League. The 2023–24 campaign saw that record surpassed, as the Colts finished runners-up to Nettleham despite scoring 149 league goals. They also won the Lincolnshire FA County Junior Cup that season for the first time in 53 years.

In the 2024–25 season, Crowle Colts were promoted to the Northern Counties East League Division One for the first time, after finishing second in the Lincolnshire League. They won the Lincolnshire FA County Junior Cup again that season, completing back-to-back triumphs in the competition. [2]

Ground

Crowle Colts play their home games at Windsor Park, located on Godnow Road, Crowle. The ground has a maximum capacity of around 500 and is equipped with floodlights, fencing, a pavilion, and other facilities.

Before the Colts began playing at Windsor Park, several of Crowle's football teams played at the Sunfield Sports Ground (later renamed Crowle Sports Club), located on Potts Lane. After the formation of Crowle Colts in 1992, the team initially played at North Axholme School during the 1990s, following the closure of Crowle Sports Club. Colts began playing at Windsor Park, located on Godnow Road, when it was opened in September 2005.
