These are the official results of the Men's Mountainbike Race at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney, Australia. There were a total number of 49 participants, with twelve non-finishers, in this event over 49.5 kilometres, held on 24 September 2000 at the Fairfield City Farm. [1]

The reigning world champion Sabine Spitz overtook Alison Sydor late in the race to claim bronze, behind Marie-Hélène Prémont. The winner of the gold medal at the previous two Olympics, Paola Pezzo of Italy, did not finish. The race consisted of 1 start loop and 5 full loop, a total of 31.3 km. It was held at 11:00 on 27 August 2004.

Marc Bassingthwaighte is a Namibian cyclist who specialises in cross-country events. Bassingthwaighte represented Namibia at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, where he competed in the men's cross-country. He has also competed in a Commonwealth Games, an African Mountain Bike Championships, a Namibian National Road Race Championships, two Namibian National Time Trial Championships, a Namibian National Mountain Bike Championships and two Giro del Capos. Bassingthwaighte is a two time medalist at the Namibian National Road Race Championships.

Marios Athanasiadis is a Cypriot cross-country mountain biker. At the 2012 Summer Olympics, he competed in the Men's cross-country at Hadleigh Farm, finishing in 40th place, the last rider to finish without being lapped. At the 2014 Commonwealth Games he finished in 16th place in the men's cross-country.

The men's modern pentathlon at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney was held on 30 September. Three venues were used: The Dome and Exhibition Complex, Sydney International Aquatic Centre (swimming) and Sydney Baseball Stadium. Dmitry Svatkovsky from Russia won the gold medal with a score of 5,376 points.

<span class="mw-page-title-main">Roel Paulissen</span> Belgian cyclist

Roel Paulissen is a Belgian former professional mountain biker. Throughout his sporting career since 1993, he has won more than ten Belgian national championship titles, mounted top-five finishes at both the European and World Cup series, and claimed a total of four medals, including two golds, in men's cross-country race at the UCI Mountain Bike World Championships. Paulissen also represented his nation Belgium in four editions of the Olympic Games, where he competed in men's mountain biking since it officially became an Olympic sport in 1996. By the start of the 2010 season, Paulissen had been overshadowed by a doping issue after he tested positive for clomiphene that sidelined and effectively ended his mountain biking career. Having lifted a two-year suspension from doping in early 2013, Paulissen came out from his short retirement to join and race professionally for the Italian team Torpado.

Cristóbal Mauricio Silva Ibaceta is a Chilean amateur mountain biker. He has won five Chilean national championship titles in men's mountain biking, and also represented his nation Chile in two editions of the Olympic Games.
