The men's cycling omnium at the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro took place at the Rio Olympic Velodrome on 14 and 15 August. [1]
The medals were presented by Marisol Casado, IOC member, Spain and Renato Di Rocco, Member of the UCI Management Committee.
The omnium competition consists of six events. During the first five events, riders receive points depending on their place, while during the final points race they can obtain points by winning sprints and taking laps during the event. [2]

Track cycling is a bicycle racing sport usually held on specially built banked tracks or velodromes using track bicycles.
The Men's omnium at the UCI Track Cycling World Championships was first competed in 2007 in Spain.
An omnium is a multiple race event in track cycling. Historically the omnium has had a variety of formats. In recent years, road racing has also adopted the term to describe multi-day races that feature the three primary road race events.
The Women's omnium at the UCI Track Cycling World Championships was first contested in 2009 in Poland.
Laura Rebecca Kenny, is an English track and road cyclist who specialises in the team pursuit, omnium, scratch race and madison disciplines. With six Olympic medals, having won both the team pursuit and the omnium at both the 2012 and 2016 Olympics and madison at the 2020 Olympics, along with a silver medal from the team pursuit at the 2020 Olympics, she is the most successful female cyclist in Olympic history.
