DAAS Icon (also known as Icon) is the first and only studio album recorded and released by Australian comedy trio, the Doug Anthony All Stars. Released in 1990, [1] it features the singles "I Want to Spill the Blood of a Hippy" and "Bottle". Icon went on to become the highest-selling independent album in Australia, [2] but was banned in the UK due to a reference to the IRA in the song "KRSNA". [3] This was later overturned by a British court. [4]

The Doug Anthony All Stars were an Australian musical comedy, alternative rock and vocal group who initially performed together between 1984 and 1994. The group were an acoustic trio, originally comprising Paul McDermott and Tim Ferguson on main vocals and Richard Fidler on guitar and backing vocals. The group reformed in 2014, with Paul Livingston replacing Fidler on guitar.
The Irish Republican Army (IRA) is a name used by various paramilitary organisations in Ireland throughout the 20th and the 21st century. The political movement is dedicated to Irish republicanism, the belief that all of Ireland should be an independent republic free from British rule. The original Irish Republican Army formed in 1917 from those Irish Volunteers who did not enlist in the British Army during World War I, members of the Irish Citizen Army and others. Irishmen formerly in the British Army returned to Ireland and fought in the Irish War of Independence. During the Irish War of Independence it was the army of the Irish Republic, declared by Dáil Éireann in 1919. Some Irish people dispute the claims of more recently created organisations that insist that they are the only legitimate descendants of the original IRA, often referred to as the "Old IRA".

Unlike the Allstars' live performances, this is an alternative rock album played with electric guitars, basses and keyboards, although some acoustic songs are included.
Alternative rock is a style of rock music that emerged from the independent music underground of the 1970s and became widely popular in the 1980s. In this instance, the word "alternative" refers to the genre's distinction from mainstream rock music. The term's original meaning was broader, referring to a generation of musicians unified by their collective debt to either the musical style or simply the independent, DIY ethos of punk rock, which in the late 1970s laid the groundwork for alternative music. At times, "alternative" has been used as a catch-all description for music from underground rock artists that receives mainstream recognition, or for any music, whether rock or not, that is seen to be descended from punk rock. Although the genre evolved in the late 1970s and 1980s, music anticipating the sound of the genre can be found as early as the 1960s, with bands such as The Velvet Underground and artists such as Syd Barrett.
The tracks "Little Gospel Song" and "Change the Blades" previously appeared on their demo tape Let It Swing in 1988. The track "Shang-a-lang" samples part of the drum intro from the Beastie Boys' "She's Crafty".
