DJI Ronin is a series of motorized camera stabilization gimbals [1] and digital movie cameras [2] manufactured by DJI, a Chinese drone manufacturer. [3]
The Ronin or "Ronin 1," announced on June 25, 2014, [4] was DJI's first entry into the market of digitally stabilized camera gimbals. This version had a max payload of 16lbs (7.25kg), [5] accommodating the heavier prosumer-level cinema and DSLR cameras of the time.
Due to similarities in the naming convention of Ronin products, DJI presently refers to this model as the "Ronin 1," [6] as do some aftermarket suppliers. [7]
The Ronin M effectively reduced the overall weight and dimensions of the original Ronin 1 into a similar package. [8] The new model introduced an updated 1580mAh battery while maintaining backwards compatibility with the higher capacity battery of the Ronin 1. [9]
The MX was released as an action gimbal designed for higher G-forces and aerial videography, with more powerful motors than the standard M model. [10] [11]
This model features a slightly higher payload of 10lbs(4.5kg) over the M when used conventionally. This payload drops to 8.49lbs(3.85kg) when the gimbal is used in conjunction with DJI's M600 hexacopter. [12]
The Ronin 2 is the largest of the Ronin series, designed for large-scale professional cinema applications, with a capacity of up to 30 pounds. [13] [14] The Ronin 2 uses a monopod halo ring instead of handles, providing multiple grip positions and mounting points. [15]
The Ronin S the first Ronin to incorporate the popular, single-hand form factor. [16] The S incorporated ergonomics that would become common across the Ronin lineup. [17]
The S gained DJI's Force Mobile and ActiveTrack 3.0 features during a firmware update released in September 2019, [18] giving it the capability to auto-track selected facial features by using a smartphone camera connected through the DJI Ronin app.
The SC is a downsized version of the S (Ronin S "Compact") [19] for lighter mirrorless cameras. The SC is equipped with a smaller battery and load capacity than the S, but shares similar ergonomics. [20]
Like the S, it gained firmware support for Force Mobile and ActiveTrack 3.0 in 2019. [21]
The RS 2 is the first DJI Ronin-series gimbal to include a built-in touchscreen [22] and focus wheel.
When equipped with DJI's optional RavenEye system, the RS 2 is also capable of ActiveTrack directly from the onboard LCD screen. [23]
The RSC 2 is a budget adaption of the RS 2, sharing many of the same features. Like earlier Ronin SC, the reduced form factor is designed primarily for mirrorless cameras. [24] Unlike the RS 2, the RSC 2 requires an external phone for ActiveTrack. [25]
It also has a built-in battery on a non-swappable grip. [26] [27]
The 4D is the first complete cinema camera integrated into the Ronin series. [28] The design merges DJI's gimbal technology onto a camera body with an iso-elastic Z-axis arm. [29] The 4D also debuted DJI's optional LiDAR radar system [30] for focusing and tracking objects on screen. [31]
Both the 6K and 8K versions were announced on October 20, 2021. [32] The 6K began shipping in February 2022, [33] followed by the 8K in December 2023. [34] [35] [36]
An additional accessory for the 4D, the Ronin 4D Flex, was announced in March of 2023. The Flex allows the 4D's lens and gimbal to be removed from the main body of the camera and reconnected by a 2-meter long flex cable; providing better access in tight locations. [37]
The RS 3 replaces the RSC 2, [38] incorporating many of the features from the RS 2, including the built-in touchscreen LCD. [39]
The RS 3 Pro replaces the previous RS 2 model, carrying over and improving existing features, including a larger (1.8") LCD screen [40] for controlling the gimbal and for ActiveTrack, and a switch for changing shooting modes. [41]
Like the Ronin 4D cinema camera, the RS 3 Pro introduces support for an optional LiDAR system for following and focusing on subjects automatically. [42]
The RS 3 Mini is designed to provide a lightweight alternative to the larger RS-series, capable of handling a payload of up to 4.4 pounds. It also offers native physical mounting on the gimbal body for vertical video shooting. [43] [44]

1440p is a family of video display resolutions that have a vertical resolution of 1440 pixels. The p stands for progressive scan, i.e. non-interlaced. The 1440 pixel vertical resolution is double the vertical resolution of 720p, and one-third more than 1080p. QHD or WQHD is the designation for a commonly used display resolution of 2560 × 1440 pixels in a 16:9 aspect ratio. As a graphics display resolution between 1080p and 4K, Quad HD is regularly used in smartphone displays, and for computer and console gaming.

The Fujifilm X-H1 is a larger mirrorless interchangeable-lens digital camera announced on February 15, 2018, by Fujifilm. It has a backside-illuminated X-Trans CMOS III APS-C sensor and an X-Processor III processor that uses the Fujifilm X-mount. The X-H1 is a weather-resistant camera with an in-body image stabilization capable of recording 4K videos up to 30 fps with a Rec.2020 color gamut at a bitrate of 200 Mbit/s. The camera can record slow motion videos in 1080p at 120 fps.
Nikon Z-mount is an interchangeable lens mount developed by Nikon for its mirrorless digital cameras. In late 2018, Nikon released two cameras that use this mount, the full-frame Nikon Z7 and Nikon Z6. In late 2019 Nikon announced their first Z-mount camera with an APS-C sensor, the Nikon Z50. In July 2020 the entry-level full-frame Z5 was introduced. In October 2020, Nikon announced the Nikon Z6II and Nikon Z7II, which succeed the Z6 and Z7, respectively. The APS-C lineup was expanded in July 2021, with the introduction of the retro styled Nikon Zfc, and in October 2021, Nikon unveiled the Nikon Z9, which effectively succeeds the brand's flagship D6 DSLR. The Canon RF lens mount is an interchangeable-lens mount developed by Canon for its full-frame mirrorless interchangeable-lens cameras, and featured first by the EOS R, followed by the EOS RP. The RF mount was announced in September 2018. In May 2022, Canon announced APS-C EOS R cameras and RF-S lenses designed for these cameras.
The Canon EOS R5 is a professional full-frame mirrorless interchangeable-lens camera officially announced by Canon on July 9, 2020 alongside the lower-resolution EOS R6 and various new RF mount lenses. While it is not a direct successor to any of Canon's previous mirrorless cameras, it does have clear improvements and advantages over the EOS R, namely: a new DIGIC X processor and sensor, 8K video capture, a new autofocus system, and the ability to take videos with 10-bit colours. The camera is available as body only, or with the Canon RF 24-105mm f/4L IS USM lens.

The α1 was announced together with the Xperia Pro smartphone, which can be used as an HDR monitor and a 5G transmitter. The camera became available in March 2021 starting at US$6500 and is aimed at professional photographers and videographers, covering wildlife, sports, action and landscape.

The original Ronin battery can be used with the Ronin-M, but the Ronin-M battery cannot be used in the original Ronin.
The maximum weight that can be carried by the M600 is 13.2 lbs (6.0kg). As the Ronin-MX weighs 4.74 lbs (2.15 kg, including vibration absorber), the maximum weight that you can fly with the M600 is 8.49 lbs (3.85 kg).
In terms of form factor, you'd be hard pressed to tell the difference between the Ronin-S and Ronin-SC...the 2.4lbd/1.1Kg Ronin-SC has been shrunk down to about 40% the size of the Ronin-S
While the app allows for an more visible interface, with this new touchscreen LCD, you don't actually need it at all, unlike previous generations
On top of what normal 3-axis gimbals are able to do, the Ronin 4D adds a 4th axis, the Z axis, to the stabilization
DJI has made an optional LiDAR Focusing System which they hope will simplify complex focus tools for a user-friendly experience.
