The DOK-ING Loox (previously known as DOK-ING XD) is a small Croatian three-seat electric city concept car created by DOK-ING. [1] The company aimed only for limited production of 1000 units, but never obtained the funds to get the car to production.
The name XD came from oddly shaped rear lights (X-shaped) and "D" beginning letter of the company's name.(they have changed the name since then) [2] Loox can travel over 250 km on a single charge with lithium iron phosphate batteries. [3] The car has a low drag coefficient factor of only 0.35. Other features include 360 degree airbags, an integrated safety system for electric stability, ABS brakes and power steering. The XD4 can go from 0–100 km in 4.2 seconds. [4] Currently, the only planned non-Croatian part will be the 32 kWh battery which can go for 200-250 kilometers with a charge time of between three and eight hours. The first prototype was completed at the beginning of 2010 and as of 2010 serial production was planned to start in 2012.[ needs update ] DOK-ING first exhibited the car at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show. DOK-ING is a privately owned Croatian company, established in the late 1991 for the production of robotic Unmanned Ground Vehicles (UGV's) for unexploded ordnance removal, firefighting, and underground mining.
In June 2010, DOK-ING announced that mass production would commence and all XDs would be factory fitted with OZ wheels. [7] [8] Later in 2010, DOK-ING unveiled a topless Loox made in collaboration with computer company Lenovo. The vehicle was fitted with Lenovo components and is said to go into production in 2012. [9] [10]
DOK-ING unveiled a production prototype XD at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show and announced the two Loox models: the XD2 and XD4, with 2 and 4 motors respectively. 0–100 km (0–60 miles) is achieved in 7.5 seconds for the XD2 and 4.2 seconds for the XD4. [11] The body is made of Kevlar and carbon fibre upon an aluminium space frame. The same vehicle was later displayed at the 2011 Greater Los Angeles Auto Show where more production details were revealed; DOK-ING had plans in 2011 to produce 1,000 units per year with a retail price of $80,000 according to The New York Times or $108,000 according to Fox News. The electric motors are supplied by the Pula-based Croatian electrical company Tema. [13]
DOK-ING had hoped to find a foreign investor for production to take place, [14] however DOK-ING chairman, Vjekoslav Majetić, confirmed that at least 5 bids have been made for collaboration at the 2010 Geneva Motor Show. [3] Foreign Investment was then expected to support the employment of 200-300 Croatian workers and upgrading of production facilities for mass production. If DOK-ING cannot find a European investor(s), DOK-ING will look for a Chinese investor, and production will be moved to China. If a Chinese investor is not found either, DOK-ING will build the cars on order. 50 orders from Croatian customers have already been accepted and estimated build-to-order production figures are 50 vehicles per year. The first order was by Mr Todoric Agrokor, who also specified every optional extra. [15] The original XD concept costs roughly $40,000 but if mass production starts, the price is estimated to fall to roughly $26,000. [16] At one time,[ when? ] the Croatian Government had pledged some funding for the project, [17] [ full citation needed ] but it is unclear if any of that ever came in.
They've sold their first unit to the Faculty of Electrical Engineering in Zagreb, and have stated they received orders from USA and Russia, and serial production could start soon. [2]
Designed by Igor Jurić, the vehicle was fully designed in approximately three months. [5] Some of the design features include butterfly doors, a Mclaren F1-style seating position and 'x' shaped rear lights. [6] The car was announced in 2009 after four years of development. [18]
Think Global was a Norwegian electric car manufacturer located in Bærum, which manufactured cars under the TH!NK brand. Production of the Think City was stopped in March 2011 and the company filed for bankruptcy on June 22, 2011, for the fourth time in 20 years. The company was bought soon after by Electric Mobility Solutions AS and production ceased in August 2012 with no more announcements regarding future production. As of October 2010, a total of 2,500 units had been manufactured at Oslo-based TH!NK's production facility.
Global Electric Motorcars (GEM) is an American automotive manufacturer specializing in neighborhood electric vehicles (NEVs) since 1998 and low-speed vehicles (LSVs) since 2001. By October 2015 the company had sold over 50,000 GEM Battery electric vehicles worldwide. Originally owned by Chrysler, GEM was acquired by Polaris Inc. in 2011. In January 2022, it became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Waev.

The BYD F3DM (Dual-mode) is a plug-in hybrid compact sedan manufactured by BYD with an all-electric range of 60 kilometres (37 mi) and a hybrid electric powertrain that can extend the range an additional 480 kilometres (300 mi). The F3DM is the world's first mass-produced plug-in hybrid automobile and went on sale to government agencies and corporations in China on December 15, 2008. During its first year in the market the F3DM plug-in sold only 48 vehicles. Sales to the general public began in Shenzhen in March 2010, and 417 units were sold during 2010. Cumulative sales in China reached 3,284 units through October 2013, when sales ended, and only 11 units were sold in Europe through October 2012.

The Mitsubishi Concept PX-MiEV is a prototype plug-in hybrid crossover utility vehicle, first exhibited at the Tokyo Motor Show in September 2009. It uses an 85 kW 1.6-litre gasoline engine as a powerplant and generator for two 30 kW electric motors, one on each axle. Mitsubishi claims it to be capable of up to 50 kilometres per litre under optimal driving conditions.
The Green Car Vision Award is an annual award granted by the Green Car Journal. In contrast with its Green Car of the Year award, which only considers production vehicles that make the most significant environmental advancements, the Green Car Vision Award considers pre-production vehicles with more than one functional prototype in existence and that may be in the early stages of commercialization. Vehicles that are part of a demonstration fleet or other program that finds them regularly driven by people other than employees of their manufacturer may also be considered. Nominees may also include a modification of an existing vehicle model, such as a conversion to another type of power like electric drive.
Mia Electric was a French electric car manufacturer in the 2010s. The company, based in Cerizay, France, designed and built electric vehicles made totally in France.
VIA Motors is an American electric vehicle development and manufacturing company founded in 2010. VIA Motors started out converting GM vehicles into plug-in hybrids (PHEV), but now produces fully electric commercial vehicles for fleet managers. VIA is developing its own skateboard platform for Class 2-5 commercial vehicles, that will enter production in 2024.
The Rimac Concept One, sometimes stylized as Concept_One, is a two-seat high-performance electric car designed and manufactured in Croatia by Rimac Automobili. With a total output of 913 kW and an acceleration time from 0–100 km/h (0–62 mph) in 2.5 seconds, the Rimac Concept One was claimed to be the world's fastest accelerating electric vehicle in 2013.
The automotive industry in Croatia employs about 10,000 people in over 130 companies. AD Klaster, members of the Croatian Association of Automotive Parts Manufacturers at the Industry sector of the Croatian chamber of economy employs about 6000 employees and generates profit of about US$600 million. There are also other companies which are not a part of AD Klaster, like AVL, Cetitec, Saint Jean Industries, König metal, Lipik Glas, Nexus, Yazaki, LTH, Multinorm, Institut RT-RK, Galo industries, and others.
